There’s an ongoing trend where people use the blanket term “Europe” to prescribe all sorts of sins to us all. Whether it’s immigration, welfare state, still purchasing Russian oil and gas, etc. Yes, those things exist. Yes, they are problematic. No, they are not universal for all European states. So, unless we start calling out individual European countries, I suggest we adopt the same approach to the Americas. @TateTheTalisman The amount of Russophobia I’ve encountered over the past few years has been astounding.

I’ve seen a lot of racism in the past few years. But the single group that has been most harassed and abused in a serious manner is… Russian both online and by governments. If blacks or Pakistanis were treated the way Russians were there would be outrage. Imagine a European state saying “this African dictator did something we dislike so we are seizing all wealth we can find that belongs to anybody black”. Wild.

A good way to understand your training is through your training stress balance. It’s the difference between your chronic training load (around 6 weeks) and your acute training load (around 1 week). Basically, you don’t want your short term load getting too far ahead of your longer term load. It’s a way of making sure your body has time to adapt. Go too far into the red without adequate recovery and your risk of overtraining and injury goes way up. There are different recommendations. I’ve seen 0 to -20 TSB, others say -10 to -30. It’s not an exact science. Add in cross training like bike or elliptical and it muddies the picture. Lifting weights too. That doesn’t show up well in TSB, but it absolutely adds to your overall load. I ramped my training pretty aggressively in March, including weights. Over the past week it’s become clear it’s not sustainable. Fatigue is always the tell. I’ve been more tired than normal. Too much red for too long. No problem. That just means it’s time to pull back for a week and adjust. I’ve already been thinking about how to tweak things going forward. Data isn’t perfect, but it tells you a lot. Especially when you pair it with how you actually feel. When you do that, you’ll see training load and fatigue line up pretty well.
