Uganda stands at a defining demographic moment. Over 55% of our population is below 16 years and generally children and 25% is between 17 and 30 years in schools or out of school or universities making Uganda one of the youngest nations in the world. Every day, our population expands rapidly; today alone, an estimated 8 million children are between the ages of 1 and 4. This youthful surge which is dependent and consumptive but both a promise and a pressure.
The challenge is clear: schools, health facilities, water systems, housing, and jobs must grow faster than population. Without deliberate investment, overstretched classrooms, limited healthcare, and rising youth unemployment threaten social stability. Yet within this challenge lies opportunity. A young population can become a powerful engine for growth if matched with quality education, skills training, industrialization, agribusiness, technology, and entrepreneurship.
Demography is not destiny by default it is destiny by design. Uganda must act boldly now to convert its youth bulge into a demographic dividend, not a demographic crisis. The future is young and it demands urgent, strategic action.

I currently employ over 3000 people mainly a youthful population but the biggest challenge we face is the work Ethics and attitude, our people lack self drive skills, hands on and eyes on work initiatives….its the most frustrating part of human resource management. I now understand why the indian entrepreneurs employ their own people in key areas of business to drive their investments.

Do you remember the fresh graduate who asked for 300k a month? I offered him 600k a month, housing and medical allowance and he is complaining that i don’t provide meals! God bless this generation.
