@Cleaver68 Reading your review of Halloween (1978) for @Flickfeast, a nice line about the film being comparable to meeting an old friend. Not always convinced by the necessity of seeing classics on the big screen, Halloween is one that plays beautifully in the movie theatre.

@BartfromRaw @BartfromRaw One of the highlights of the year, and the striking thing about Chloe Zhao's The Rider is that it comes across as a very simple film, and yet the emotions of the story and the characters create a complexity around its simple core. A film of poetic patience!

@BartfromRaw's @AmerAnimals is one of those films that reminds us of the joy of illusion, or rather authorial deception. This is one of the films we'll be talking about come year's end.

@The_Film_Girl Completely agree with you Chloe. As a regional writer it becomes increasingly difficult to cover film. It's so sad to think we have let it come to this after online supposedly democratised film criticism.

@Ianthesceptic @The_Film_Girl Having written academically, elitism is something I have had the displeasure to come across. Some (not all) intelligent critics lack the ability to perceive a place for different approaches, which creates a contrast that defines the different approaches, and is vital to identity.

Sympathy over God-like judgement - how necessary it is for an author of a story to seperate creating & listening to the story & characters from judgement. Whilst Scorsese's Wolf of Wall Street didn't necessarily sympathise, the lack of judgement drew criticism. And wrongly so!

Max Winkler discusses the morally dubious world of FLOWER, wherein audiences can explore darker shades of themselves -- and darker aspects of their sympathy. popm.at/2NKtcYY

@PopSarah It is a wish I often have. Although for any Bruckner, I would have to take a momentary break.

The @FantasiaFest audience should prepare themselves for moral & didactic restraint with Lisa Brühlmann's coming-of-age feature debut, BLUE MY MIND. Cinema driven by a desire to emotionally connect with an audience; not preach. Read @PopMatters' interview: popm.at/2Lc0bYT

"I don't think you should feel about a film. You should feel about a woman, not a movie. You can't kiss a movie" - Godard. Cinema has moved me throughout my years by way of "action & empathy", and to not have felt about a film is surely missing out on a precious life experience?! twitter.com/popmatters/sta…

.@FirstReformed may explore the edges of faith but director Paul Schrader believes that what moves us in cinema is no mystery: it's simply "action and empathy". Enjoy this #Interview with Schrader by @PaulRisker.

I always think recalling these kinds of moments are like reconnecting with the simple pleasures of storytelling. Whilst storytelling can be embraced on an intellectual level, we should never forget its innocence to just evoke a sense of joy/pleasure. twitter.com/ian_boucher/st…

@bonnequin In one sense I agree, but remember that Federer and Nadal, both so beloved, tend to always retreat to humility.

@tapeter87 @Ian_Boucher @avrilanche Each of the three films had their own particular presence, but in many ways The Dark Knight was two films made as one... rushed rather than allowed to fully breathe. Re-watching films after a passage of time is interesting - is it the spectator or the world that changes them?

The old adage: "Ignorance is bliss." Yet as painful as it is to pay attention to what's going on, to develop that all important sense of awareness as well as self-awareness, to and to challenge in order to think for oneself, the pain remains preferential to ignorance. twitter.com/karenzarker/st…

@Ian_Boucher @MESjournal Intrigued to read this piece Ian - how Hitchcock casts an inescapable shadow hey?! And concur with your feelings of the need for academic, or simply a thoughtful and intelligent discussion of cinema.
