Robert Preston has to be the most commonly forgotten major Corrie regular. There's a business on the street that is named after him and yet he still has no actual legacy in the show. I don't even know if he's been mentioned once since his laughably tragic death 6+ years ago.

@TinyWriterLaura I always used to say Gen Zed until my teen daughter told me I should be saying Gen Zee. Zed sounds more natural to me. Maybe an age thing?

everyone in the UK says gen-zee even if they usually use zed at the end of the alphabet, the same way we also say Jay-Z and Dragon Ball Z

@WoollerEmma @Sally_writes I've never really thought about it before but I was brought up in the north & now live in the south and I think I've moved from saying settee to sofa over the years - not sure if it's a regional thing or just fashion. But pretty sure Sally's readers will know what it means!

@Sally_writes @Paulasmaula I'm a bit sad that I stopped saying "settee". When I was a kid I thought it was the English word & 'sofa' was Australian (where we lived for a few years) but now I don't think anyone in my immediate family has said 'settee' for years. We're in the South, though.

@HenryGJeffreys @FiShoop Surely listening to audiobooks still helps kids' vocabulary and comprehension and, crucially, is more enjoyable for some. I'd rather they enjoyed an audiobook than not access any books at all.

It's terrifying watching educational decline as it happens. My eldest daughter (14) used to do the summer reading challenge. The librarian would quiz you on the book to make sure you had read it. Also no audiobooks.

@HenryGJeffreys My teen daughter was a summer reading challenge volunteer at our local library and definitely asked the children a few questions about the books they'd read. I think grilling them too much would kind of take the fun out of it though...

Now children just say they have read something and it is marked down. Also to make it more inclusive, they can just listen to an audiobook. So no actual reading required for the summer reader challenge!

Hook (1991) sitting at 29% on Rotten Tomatoes still feels unreal. Steven Spielberg’s scale, Robin Williams’ warmth, and Dustin Hoffman with Bob Hoskins going full theatrical pirate chaos. It’s messy, loud, and absolutely drenched in childhood wonder.

I walk down Oxford Street all the time. Go to John Lewis, Uniqlo, M&S, the big Boots. Have noticed none of the below. I miss Top Shop though

Every time I walk down Oxford Street feels like an exercise in forgetting what - until recently - London was. The Arabic caterwauling. The waft of dope. The pimped cars. The Gulf vibe. The women in niqabs. The tat shops. A place of foregone grandeur and an irrecoverable England.
