@alisonkiddle, I gather most people talking about origami Soma cubes were inspired by your talk!

So, at one point during the latest MathsJam Annual Gathering the topic of origami Soma cubes popped up. I had folded one using sonobe modules a while ago, but decided to try my hand once more. So, please welcome my new rickety origami companion.

August 24 marked the 120th birthday of Argentinian author Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986), whose works were often steeped in the flavour of mathematics. (Attached is a photograph of Labirinto Borges, a hedge maze on San Giorgio Maggiore island in Venice)

@mathsjamkl You are most welcome! Was everything alright with your hexahedroflexes? I heard that some were, well, not really accommodating.

Thank you, @PaviaMathsjam, for a fun night full of intricate puzzling and furious folding! We had a blast and loved every single Shout item.

Now, in a real-world scenario the "this can be done indefinitely" bit in the Shout was probably a bit far fetched. In the video I folded my HHF just 3 times, but I can assure you that it should last longer than your average Italian government.

The idea is to push all the six tips towards the centre. And to press the "sides" of the HHF back in place, should they "pop out" during the "flexing".

So, I hear some of the hexahedroflexes were less than (com)pliant. It can happen, and in general it takes some persuasion for things to work well. Here is a video showing how to properly flex one. You might also want to pinch each fold a little to make the structure more docile.

@timarumathsjam Glad you guys had a good time! We are meeting next Tuesday, so right now I can only hope our Shout meets the same warmth here as well. 😅

Great times. Thank you @PaviaMathsjam. Good for tonight - and good to take home and finish. The 'Cut' was a big hit, and we've a few good origami fans who were pleased. :)
