Here is a factsheet on what is currently known about Birchgletscher, the Swiss glacier that catastrophically collapsed on 28 May 2025, following heavy debris loading from Kleines Nesthorn. Our thoughts are with all those most deeply affected. polybox.ethz.ch/index.php/s/ea…

Government grants are not always a sign of a product's potential because of their poor review policy. I've seen cases where winners white-labelled existing products—often poorly—yet secured funding through strong promotion, giving the impression they were the original creators.

A SCAM pulled off by one of the Top 3 contestants in this hackathon, won whopping 75 Lakhs of funding just by rebranding @brave Browser! This is bigger than one can think! Tagging @AshwiniVaishnaw and @GoI_MeitY @cdacindia.

We set up two high-altitude meteorological stations in the Zanskar Valley (Abran and Padum towns). Hopefully these will provide long-term data from one of the least explored areas in the Himalaya. Thanks #MoES and #ISRO.

#UttarakhandForestFire While forest fires in Uttarakhand aren't making much news anymore, here are photographs of Nainital I clicked today. So far, across Uttarakhand, 1044+ hectares gutted in these fires.

This video of the Rock of Gibraltar gives an intuition for why some areas of the world have deserts next to rainforests What's happening here? How can you use that to predict where there will be deserts or rainforests?🧵

After 7 years, #Kashmir is again experiencing #snowless #winter. The snow in #chillaikalaan, the 40-day severest part of winter b/w 21 Dec and 29 Jan, is important for regulating glacier health and streamflows.+

Some perspectives on the #sikkimflood disaster: 1. A landslide of waterlogged lateral moraine triggered the GLOF. 2. As at Chamoli, the landslide moved tens of m prior to collapse. 3. Anthropogenic activity influenced both the consequences and the triggering of this disaster. 1/8

'One of the biggest on record' Ozone hole bigger than North America opens above Antarctica The recently measured ozone hole over Antarctica, as detected by the Copernicus Sentinel-5P satellite, is one of the largest on record, according to a report from the European Space Agency. The hole reached an astounding 26 million square kilometers on September 16, 2023 - approximately three times the size of Brazil. The satellite hosts a cutting-edge multispectral imaging spectrometer known as Tropomi. The instrument enhances atmospheric monitoring capabilities by identifying distinct "fingerprints" of various gases across different segments of the electromagnetic spectrum. This allows for more precise and higher resolution imaging of a wide array of pollutants. livescience.com/planet-earth/w…
