Chillul Hashem is a key concept in Judaism.
It means that while it is religiously legitimate to harm and exploit non-Jews, this must be done in a careful manner.
It should not be done in a situation where non-Jews find out about it, such that it harms the reputation and interests of Jews.
In other words, Jews are required to feign respect for non-Jews in order to advance their interests.

The iconic Kars4Kids jingle is coming off the air in California after a judge ruled the charity’s ads misled donors about where their money was actually going.
The judge said the Kars4Kids ads led people to believe they would be helping local, needy children with their donations, but according to the ruling “children, especially needy or underprivileged children, are not the recipients of the proceeds of the donations.”
In reality, donations have been going to help fund a New Jersey-based Orthodox Jewish outreach program, which includes organizing annual trips to Israel for 17-year-olds and 18-year-olds.

Is it good to have empathy for a group whose religious texts promote racism, apartheid, and genocide?
Is it good to have empathy for a group whose religious texts command adherents to hide each other's crimes (e.g., theft, child rape) from outsiders (mesira)?
Is it good to have empathy for a group which has been expelled from every country in which it has ever lived for criminal behavior?
Or should all of this be disregarded because of a few tear-jerking Hollywood propaganda films on the Holocaust?
Wouldn't empathy for such a group be a paradigmatic case of what Saad calls "suicidal empathy"?

Beware the empathy exploit. Empathy is good and right when thought through (deep), but can be deadly to civilization when simply stimulus-response (shallow). For example, releasing a repeat violent offender may feel good at first (shallow empathy for the criminal), but it is wrong to do so when that person will go on to hurt or murder innocent victims, as there should be deep empathy for future victims.
