Speaker #1 Hamza Al-Shami @7amzaalshami Hamza Al-Shami, a 36-year-old male journalist and photographer from east Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip, is married and currently lives with his wife and their four children, two girls and two boys, in a tent on his wife’s family land, where six people in total are staying together with no rent to pay. Originally, Hamza and his extended family lived comfortably in their own multi-story homes, ran a small factory, and tended agricultural farmland, but repeated displacement, now totalling ten times since the genocide began, has left everything destroyed, including their houses, the factory, the farm, their car, and Hamza’s photography equipment and budding hot beverage business. Hamza himself was injured by shrapnel in his feet early in the siege and requires ongoing nerve treatment, though he manages day to day. His father suffered a stroke and heart complications triggered by the loss and stress, leaving him unable to move; doctors recommended immediate transfer abroad, and the family managed to send him alone to Egypt, where he now needs continuous financial support for treatment, medication, and care. As the main provider, Hamza also supports his siblings, who have no income or work opportunities, and helps around seven families overall through what little he earns from reporting.
