I have followed @Chude's career for a long time. I was an early subscriber to Daily Vulnerable (iykyk), saw the Joy Retreats and the early days of #WithChude Show. So watching the growth from Red Media, then Statecraft, to Joy Inc, and now one of Africa's biggest talk shows has been incredible, but it also meant I had a lot of questions for him. .. and we talked about everything. We talked extensively about his depression, how he dealt with it, and the aftermath. How is that the most pivotal incident of this life so far, and how it influences the work he does on his show today. We talked about his early years in media and the people who shaped him. The Future Africa Awards and the doors it opened, the power it gave him. We talked about what it meant to help elect presidents across multiple African countries, about the 2015 elections, his rejection of political appointments, the bridges he burnt, and why... It's a different interview from what I usually do, and that's what makes it so good. If you care about and can relate to mental health struggles, or are just curious about the business of media and being a creator today, or are interested in Nigerian politics, or just business in general. Then this is the episode to watch. youtu.be/o3WxBUC9Q00?si…

I have now spent a total of 2½ days watching @peaceitimi conversation with @seyedele because I kept pausing, taking notes, and seeing how these lessons can be practically applied. A few lessons: my Top 5 1. Solve for the "Core" First: PaidHR initially wanted to build employee engagement tools, but pivoted to HR/Payroll software because they realised they needed a "core base" where employees already existed and interacted daily before they could offer engagement features. 2. Be "Teachable": Seye @seyedele mentioned PaidHR's first customer was TSL (2,000 employees), even while the product was not 'perfect' but because the founders appeared "really teachable" and willing to listen. That's a design partner right there! 3. Prioritise Customer Success and Sales Early: Once they had a small amount of capital ($10,000), Seye's first hires were in customer success and sales, rather than more engineers, because his co-founder already had the technical capacity to build. 4. Nurture Long-Term Relationships: Funding and opportunities often came from decades-old connections. Seye met his co-founder at his first job, and his first $10k came from friends he had nurtured relationships with over time. 5. Focus on People Management, Not Just Operations: Invest in leadership coaching and personal development for the team (People Management) rather than just tracking tasks and compensation (People Operations)

You have no experience. You’ve never started a company. You’ve never had a full time job. Nike is going to kill you. You’re a kid. You don’t have technical skills. You shouldn’t build hardware. Apple is going to kill you. You can’t build hardware. You can’t measure heart rate non-invasively. Athletes don’t care about recovery. Under Armour is going to kill you. It won’t be accurate. You don’t listen. You’re an ineffective leader. You can’t recruit great talent. You’re going to have to pay every athlete. You can’t measure sleep non-invasively. It’s too expensive to research. Athletes are a small market. The product costs too much to make. The product costs too much to sell. Your valuation is too high. Consumers aren’t going to want it. Hardware is too hard. You should measure steps. Fitbit is going to kill you. You can’t build a marketing engine. You can’t raise enough money. You need a real CEO. Google is going to kill you. You can’t be a subscription. You can’t build a brand. You can’t do consumer in Boston. Your valuation is too high. You shouldn’t make accessories. You shouldn’t make apparel. Lululemon is going to kill you. You can’t predict Covid. Stay in your niche. You are going to run out of money. You can’t build a health platform. Amazon is going to kill you. You can’t measure blood pressure. You can’t get medical approvals. The market is too small. You don’t understand AI. The market is too competitive. It won’t work internationally. The supply chain is too complicated. You can’t build an AI. You can’t raise enough money. It’s too competitive. Healthcare isn’t going to want it. … Just keep going ✌️

Ventures Platform is 10. 🚀🎉🎊 I am grateful to God Almighty and the community that has supported and partnered with us all these years. 🙏🏿 As we mark this anniversary, we have been reflecting on what the next ten years ask of us. In line with that, I am very excited to announce a 3-year partnership with Pan-Atlantic University @pau_nigeria and the Yemisi Shyllon Museum of Art @shyllonmuseum on two initiatives: a Student Entrepreneurship Engagement Program and the VP–YSMA Futures Art Award. bit.ly/futures-art-aw… We hope that these initiatives, along with others to be announced soon, inspire the next generation of builders! It’s still Day 1!

A motor park in Nigeria is not where most people expect a business breakthrough to happen. But that is exactly where the most important pivot in this story took place — because real adaptation comes from standing somewhere uncomfortable, hearing something inconvenient, and having the honesty to act on it. The operators who truly understand are the ones willing to go back to the field when everything stops making sense — and rebuild from what they find there. This piece is about what that actually looks like. Read the full story here: open.substack.com/pub/foundersco…

Bukayo Saka isn’t “out of form”, you’re watching a player managing his body in real time. For years, he barely missed games. Relentless. Durable. Always available. But last season changed everything. A major hamstring injury kept him out for months. Over 100 days sidelined. 20+ games missed. Add other muscle issues… and suddenly, the most reliable player in the squad wasn’t so invincible anymore. And since returning… something is different. That explosive burst? Reduced. Those fearless 1v1s? More cautious. The constant direct threat? Slightly muted. That’s not coincidence. Hamstring injuries don’t just disappear; they affect acceleration, sharp turns, confidence in sprinting. Players don’t always trust their body immediately after. Saka has been one of the most overplayed players in Europe for years for club + country, week in week out. What we’re seeing now is physical load catching up. And yet… he’s still producing. Still showing up. Still contributing. That’s the part you people ignore. This isn’t a decline. This is a player recovering while still carrying responsibility. Arsenal fans need to understand this: You don’t turn on players like Saka when the signs are clear. You support them through it. Because when he’s fully back… you’ll remember exactly who he is. What does it cost to build something under your name, then walk away from it? @DadaBen_, founder of @thecondia, opens up about the hardest moments in building one of Africa's leading tech media platforms: the identity crisis, the rebrand, and why letting go of his own name was the most painful decision he ever made. youtu.be/RXyMiebGK-w?si…
