Honoured to welcome my distinguished colleague and friend Johann Wadephul @AussenMinDE to Bucharest. We had a thorough exchange of views with a practical approach to political and economic issues of mutual interest. We discussed topics ranging from European security, EU enlargement, support for Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, cooperation in the Black Sea region to developments in the Middle East. 🇷🇴 attaches particular importance to its cooperation with 🇩🇪 in strategically relevant areas such as strengthening economic ties, deepening relations in the field of security and defence, energy, digitalization, tourism, as well as education and dual vocational training. Thanked for Germany’s participation in NATO’s enhanced Air Policing (eAP) mission in Romania. Romanian community in 🇩🇪, ethnic Germans originating from 🇷🇴, and the German minority in 🇷🇴 continue to be the driving force behind the special people-to-people ties between our two countries.

Very good meeting with Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz @bundeskanzler. Our joint Action Plan signed today is a clear expression of our political commitment to deepen our political dialogue and the cooperation in particular in economic fields such as defence, manufacturing industry, energy and new technologies. We will continue to coordinate our actions in the EU and NATO, and to support Ukraine and R. Moldova, including on their European path. Grateful for the support of Germany on our OECD accession. Appreciation for the central role the Romanian community in Germany and German minority in Romania play in our societies.
