“It can take years to get diagnosed. Often #chronicillness patients have to go through a plethora of doctors… Many of us have had to fight tooth & nail for treatment…it’s exhausting, isolating. It makes life—which is already stressful—that much more so.” buff.ly/TPJo4Iy

The FDA is officially removing the old black-box warning from many forms of HRT❗What’s actually changing? The outdated “blanket danger” label is being removed. Updated language will reflect current evidence, specific risks will still be noted

Today is a big day in the women’s health space! Finally the “black box” warning is being taken off of hormone therapy treatments. As Dr. Rachel Ruben pointed out today at the HHS news conference, this change came about because women across America spoke up and demanded change. Great job to all those who’ve advocated for this to happen. There are so many warriors in the women’s health space, so many advocates, so many pushing for more research, more knowledge, more education. Things are changing in real time, so I’m really grateful that this happened today, and I look forward to so much more happening in this space. At the press conference today, they called for menopause to be taught in medical school curriculums, but the truth is, we need overall women’s health taught. Women are not little men, as was long thought, and therefore we need practitioners, doctors, researchers, who understand Women’s Health, doctors who understand women at midlife and beyond, and who understand how to help keep us safe and in good health. So let’s keep advocating! Let’s keep this movement going by investing in women’s health research and in educating our doctors about all aspects of women’s health. #womenshealthmatters

Rachel Rubin, MD: “Until today, the warning label on the box falsely says that vaginal estrogen causes cancer stroke, blood clots, heart attacks, and probable dementia. Yet not a single scientific study shows this.”
