✍️ Satoshi wrote in the Bitcoin whitepaper:
"Once a predetermined number of coins have entered circulation, the incentive can transition entirely to transaction fees and be completely inflation free."
In 2010, he also wrote:
"I'm sure that in 20 years there will either be very large transaction volume or no volume."
Based on the above, it's clear that Satoshi intended for Bitcoin to one day pay for its security through high transaction volume and the fees associated with those transactions.
This is not possible on BTC, not only due to the 1MB block size limit, but because the BTC community primarily promotes holding their coins rather than actually using them.
By focusing on holding and not on usage, they've shifted the narrative from Bitcoin as electronic cash, to Bitcoin as digital gold, since this allows the core developers to ignore issues like high transaction fees and low transaction throughput while avoiding having to do the work necessary to scale and improve the chain.
A byproduct of this is there is no incentive for developers to try and build more infrastructure or a killer app, because why would you create something nobody is going to use?
Contrast this to the eCash ecosystem where the community is all about using XEC as both electronic cash and digital gold. The focus isn't on holding but on using the chain to create as much value as possible.
For example, the new coinbase rule on eCash enabled a self-funding mechanism to pay protocol developers to help scale the chain as well as app developers to create exciting new applications like the soon to be released @thepaybutton to bring more on chain economic activity.
By making the base layer actually usable with a vision to keep it that way no matter how many people are onboarded to the network, eCash is introducing new incentives that simply don't exist on BTC.
@eCashOfficial is barely getting started. There may be few people using the network today, but I have a feeling that's all about to change in the not too distant future. At first gradually, then suddenly.
