Albert died a very painful death, all because of one man’s ego. Months after his death, justice is yet to be served. He was so afraid that he called his friend to ask if he would be safe in police custody. His instincts were telling him something wasn’t right. I can’t even imagine how he must have felt the moment he walked into those cells and realized the people around him intended to end his life, that he was never going to walk out of that place alive. That it was the end for him. I imagine him thinking about his family, his wife, and his child, knowing he might never see them again. I imagine him begging for his life. Not because he killed. Not because he stole but because of a mere social media post. Is that really what his life was worth?

The pressure is again mounting on DIG Eliud Lagat! I don't think he will survive the second phase of the onslaught on the Albert Ojwanga murder case !

Everyone who interacted with Albert Ojwang during his final hours; including those who transported him, processed him, supervised him, communicated with those directly involved, or otherwise played a role should be thoroughly investigated. Where the evidence establishes criminal responsibility, those responsible should be prosecuted and, if convicted by a court of law, receive penalties commensurate with the gravity of their offences. No one should be shielded because of rank, office, or association. Justice requires that every link in the chain of responsibility be examined and that accountability follows the evidence, wherever it leads.

We live in a country where you can be killed inside a police station. Where police hire thugs to assault citizens, delete CCTV footage and their spokesperson lies that the victim slammed his head against a cell wall. At what point do we stop calling this a functioning state?
