@sensorystories_ The only problem is if the person wants others to accommodate them without actually getting a diagnosis first. Sure, SD yourself w it, but until you have official dx you cant really expect people to fulfill all your needs and accommodations. Just my take on this ig

I will never question a person's self-diagnosis. I'm sure there are people out there claiming to be autistic when they're not, but those people are not the ones coming to this space for answers and support.

@WorkMHLeader @sensorystories_ What support are you referring to, though? Reasonable adjustments at work are supposed to be based on need not diagnosis. That's the only available support I can think of.

@Ord_Off This is why I say equity is bad & equality is good. Treat folks equally, don’t put them on a pedestal. If noone is highlighted as being special (of course HELP them when blind, deaf, in a wheelchair etc. to enable those folks to participate easier) then all are equal.

This is not a Church of England I recognise. How can you say all are welcome while we know discrimination is rife? Such a rosy, aspirational view of a loving Church of England would be wonderful! But it isn't reality. #Synod

@ItsEmilyKaty I think it's very similar to keeping a pet dog at home and taking them for walks. There must be an ethical debate there, but if the dog is well looked after and appears happy most of us would accept it.

Is dog sledding/husky rides ethical?

@ItsEmilyKaty When I did this the dogs were SO excited to run. Some would bounce around and others would lift their legs to help put their harness on. At the end of the day they preferred to sleep on our beds. Very much like other pet dogs 😃

The thing is is that autism really is an excuse for a lot of “weird” and “rude” behaviors. Unfortunately it is incredibly embarrassing to ever say this

I've been doing some more questioning of the DWP, with some staggering results. 4,048 individuals receive benefits through PIP directly for their obesity, and how it impacts them. PIP is for... "a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability difficulty doing certain everyday tasks or getting around because of your condition" Which other 'conditions' can help qualify you for PIP? And how many individuals currently claim on the basis on them? 33,530 for 'anxiety disorders'. 10,535 for 'alcohol misuse'. 2,902 for 'drug misuse'. 47,061 for ADHD... 6,147 for agoraphobia. 5,274 for OCD. 2,236 for panic disorder. I could go on and on and on. There needs to be a safety net for those who genuinely require the help, but it's abundantly clear that the system is wide open to abuse. Fundamental reform is required. Give help to those who need it, but crack down on this staggering waste. We all have issues to deal with, many unpleasant and challenging. Sorry, but these conditions listed should NOT qualify the individual for taxpayer funding.

@martin220368 @Alex4Craig_Dudd Correct, but people don't think like this. They only consider the fuel and decide that driving feels cheaper. Making driving seem cheaper isn't a helpful policy.

@Alex4Craig_Dudd I am all for cheaper bus and train fares. However your "analysis " fails on a few levels- not least that petrol is 75% of the cost of running a car. Also if you use the bus to go to work every day you're more likely to have a season ticket.

The government will protect working people and those in local communities by freezing fuel duty next year. This is a tax cut worth £3bn and will save motorists almost £60 a year.

@eclecticherbal @sensorystories_ Reassuring that it can work sometimes. I made the mistake of going on gender change day. Fortunately I was discharged for non-compliance. ie refusal to say that I wanted to change gender.

@Pengwin4rd @sensorystories_ That’s not been my experience at all, and the overwhelming majority of people I’ve worked with clinically have benefited from psychiatry.

PSA An autistic person who doesn't have an official diagnosis is still autistic. Not having a diagnosis doesn't change an autistic person's needs nor their worthiness of support/accomodations.

@eclecticherbal @sensorystories_ The shocking thing is how doctors and researchers get to disregard actual peoples experiences. We give them so much power. Seeing a psych is like taking your broken arm to hospital only for them to say they are doing legs today, so you get no help and now your leg is in plaster
