Great info! But it is important to note that the current forecasts show increasing probability of El Niño development by June–August 2026, with the most significant hydro-meteorological impacts expected in the subsequent months rather than immediately.

Following the release of the March–April–May (MAM) 2026 Seasonal Rainfall Outlook by @min_waterUg last week, which shows that most parts of Uganda are expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall during the country’s first rainy season of the year, we wish to highlight the potential disaster risks associated with this forecast and measures being undertaken to mitigate their impact. We also encourage the public to take advantage of the anticipated rains by maximising water harvesting and increasing food production as coping strategies during the dry season and periods of scarcity. 1/2

Just five years ago these homes were safely 200 meters from the river. Today, the bank has vanished due to fluvial erosion putting families at risk of displacement.
