There are only two ways to influence human behavior: you can manipulate it or you can inspire it.

Just wondering…Why are we so eager to combine grades in 6-8 so that some can be accelerated into Alg 1 in grade 8, when the duplicative Alg 2 and Pre-Calc can easily be merged to open the door to Calculus to anyone who wants it without the inequity of Middle School tracks? Hmmm.

Why do we treat narrative, informational, and persuasive writing as distinct types of writing? It's a lie. Narrative undergurds all. Writing is a mix. Let's let students in on that secret.

The ideal number of hours to work each day? Five. Doesn't apply to those who can't control their sched. But knowledge & creative workers can get a heckuva lot done in 5 hours of uninterrupted, no-meetings, email-free, Slack-less, heads-down work. wired.co.uk/article/workin…

I could not agree with this more! Kids have lots they could tell us about how they would best learn. We need to listen to them, make them feel cared for and make classrooms places that inspire them to be creative thinkers!

"Kids truly are the most precious, abundant, and underutilized resource in every classroom. They are also critical to personalizing learning for teachers." @LainieRowell Shared this from Lainie and discuss the importance of stories in this week's email! buff.ly/3fefgHU

Eliminate D’s and F’s. If you have to have grades, go ABC/I (Incomplete) so kids can make up any classes they struggled in. D feels like defeat and F signals failure. Get failure out of the classroom!

I’m hearing from many parents about how teachers are performing heroically in difficult and scary times to provide comfort, humor, empathy, and instruction. Teachers are always superheroes. Now they seem to have even another gear of awesomeness. They are the best of #WhatUnitesUs

There are so many quiet, unsung heroes in American daily life, but at the top of the list must be nurses and teachers. They exemplify the best of #WhatUnitesUs.
