The obvious benefits ( financial and environmental included) of our move to net zero . Best take the nonsense posted and peddled by those with fossil fuel backing (politicians incl) a very large pinch of salt edie.net/stalling-net-z…

@CamillaTominey @AndreaAndreamax Those with excessive wealth, those who like political systems that disproportionately skew voting intentions, those who don’t understand we need real change, and those with vested interests in continuing to reward billionaires at the expense of the general good might think that.

@ukJ0N .. and too many of their MPs (this one used to claim yearly housing expenses in excess of the average annual wage of his constituents) seem to show little evidence of really understanding how many of those they ‘represent’ actually get by on day to day basis.

@ukJ0N ..,neighbouring countries. Alll too often these have seen far too many (though by no means all) landlords provide what should rightly be considered sub-optimal living conditions in return for (v) high rents. Once again - Reform policies aren’t designed to help ordinary people..

Here are all Danny Kruger’s bits from tonight’s Question Time. He is so calm and composed under pressure. Reform UK are incredibly lucky to have him fighting for us. Is it just me or did Fiona Bruce lay off him tonight? Either the BBC are finally respecting that Reform is a dominant force in British politics and not going anywhere, or Danny was simply too good. @danny__kruger #ReformUK

@Suewilson91 Not sure why people object to the idea of not having to fork out currency exchange fees, why they think businesses wouldn’t benefit from the certainty of costs (inherent in sharing currency) or why they want to restrict UK citizens movement across (the majority of our continent)

So many, whether pro or anti EU, have raised concerns that, should we rejoin, that means signing up to the Euro & Schengen. There's no reason to believe that's actually the case.
Ben Judah@b_judah

Could you win an EU referendum? Polls offer a very favourable start with 59% to 55% in favour. But there are two questions you want resolved as the pro-EU government going into a vote. Both I Belin are surmountable. 1) Does Britain have to join the EU? The Commission wants new members to join to strengthen the currency but there is no explicit treaty basis to this and there is no enforcement or even expectation of a member joining unless they wish to. Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Sweden are not in the Euro and Denmark holds a legal opt out. I believe the UK at a minimum could secure prior to a vote senior EU leaders saying — “the UK doesn’t have to join the Euro.” They would be conceding nothing and badly increase the vote’s chance of success which would be in their political interest. Whether this is a form of words or a legal instrument ultimately isn’t that important in batting down the vote losing argument a vote for the EU means Euro membership. 2) Does the UK have to join the passport-free Schengen area? Ireland has an opt-out to Schengen so the UK being forced to join Schengen by the EU would be forcing a passport border either in the island of Ireland or down the Irish Sea. That isn’t going to happen. Ireland doesn’t want to join Schengen, would want the UK to return to the EU, so would most likely push in any accession the UK joins with an exemption to Schengen to protect its interests. Brexit made the principle of open-borders on the island of Ireland so central to Commission thinking I do not doubt this would be fundamental to any reentry negotiation — in the UK’s favour for a Schengen opt-out.

@RobNewmanLab @wesstreeting Personally, I don’t think Wes is the right man for the job, and not simply because of the sources of the money that appears to back him. I don’t ( currently) believe he would enthuse enough of the country to vote for Labour, nor him as a potential PM.

I’ve always been proud to call @wesstreeting a friend. He’s begun to turn the NHS around & proven in Redbridge that we can beat both Left & Right. As he’s shown, Labour wins not when we obsess over our own hobby horses & dogma but when we focus on the public’s concerns 🌹

Rebuilding our relationship with Europe matters. I headed to Brussels today to meet with @steph_sejourne as we deepen UK-EU cooperation on our industrial strategy. A closer relationship with Europe benefits Britain - it creates jobs, strengthens trade and increases our security.

@ShippersUnbound Given Brexit has contributed to the downfall of numerous PMs (& wrought havoc across the UK, our opportunities and our economy) one might be forgiven for asking any potential leaders just how quickly they stop trying to polish the proverbial & actually commit to triggering Art49

@ShippersUnbound You also need to ask who, if anyone, is funding /bankrolling them, surely? Say for arguments sake a big crypto millionaire was donating millions, what would they expect in return? Or a firm with interests in privatising healthcare - people may wonder how safe the NHS really is.

Having seen this show multiple times, MPs will be asking themselves “can I get a better job?” And “will the new leader swing the way my heart desires?” Labour MPs will do themselves and the country a favour if they use their heads and ask every leadership contender these questions: 1) What is your plan? Not the vibes or the direction of travel. The actual policies they will prioritise 2) How will you communicate this plan to the voters? (MPs ask yourself if the candidate is a good communicator because without that they are lost) 3) Who is your team to enact this plan both a) in the key cabinet posts and b) in Downing Street. At a bare minimum they should have identified a chief of staff and a director of communications 4) How will your plan persuade the markets not to blow up the government on the launching pad? If you don’t get proper answers to all these questions move on. Unless they have good answers to all these questions you will be installing another dud

@KelvinHolt4 @reformparty_uk @McivorJaymey became PM without ‘winning’ an election ( Cameron’s Cons got the most seats in an election but they did not win a majority of seats or vote share) . That said this does demonstrate the distorting weakness and failures of FPTP rather well.

@KelvinHolt4 @reformparty_uk @McivorJaymey Why? I didn’t vote Labour in the GE, but under the electoral system we have I understand they won an election as Labour (we do not directly vote for a PM, so if SkS is to go before the GE it is a matter for the PLP and Labour members). Brown Cameron May Johnson Truss Sunak all…

@Nigel_Farage @reformparty_uk You said a big yes to huge donations from a rather opaque cryptocurrency millionaire (or is he a billionaire?-no matter- you failed to declare this.) Along with his huge donations to your party (um ltd company) do you really think the public believe he wants nothing in return?

@danny__kruger Advise whatever you like Danny, but be advised that taking your constituents for granted by not allowing them to endorse ( or reject) your defection in a democratic by-election will be likely to work against you.
