After visiting El Salvador in 2023, I posted this:
“If I was an investor looking internationally for on-the-ground opportunities, I would immediately get an office in the capital, San Salvador, and look for ways to put money in the country. Multiple sectors are growing fast. The opportunities seem huge.”
Three years later, investors who took that advice are probably pretty happy.
I’ve returned three times since then. The country continues to be one of the best investment environments I’ve ever seen, as noted below.
This will be a multi-decade growth story.

¿Ven cómo ni ellos mismos creen en lo que dicen defender?
No se confundan: a ninguno de ellos le importan realmente los derechos humanos, ni la justicia, ni el debido proceso (vuelvan a leer el tuit citado si tienen alguna duda). Lo único que buscan es que sus amigos pandilleros queden libres para volver a aterrorizar al pueblo salvadoreño.
¿Se imaginan qué dirían estas ONGs y periodistas si vaciáramos un cargador a cada pandillero y los colgáramos boca abajo en la plaza pública? 🤯

El Presidente @nayibbukele solicita el acompañamiento de los diputados de la @AsambleaSV a la iniciativa de reforma constitucional para que los salvadoreños en el exterior cuenten con representación en la Asamblea Legislativa.
Por primera vez, la diáspora contará con diputados elegidos específicamente para su representación, con voz y voto en las decisiones que definen el rumbo del país.

It’s interesting to see how so many media outlets, politicians, and representatives of international NGOs lie so blatantly about El Salvador.
Anyone who has visited our country knows that tattoos are not only allowed, but very common. Many Salvadorans have them, even in highly visible areas: full sleeves, face, neck, hands, etc. It’s simply not true that people are required to cover them up.
It’s also false that tattoo artists have been arrested. There are hundreds of tattoo shops, and many are now doing better than ever, since they can stay open late without being extorted by gangs.
Tattoos aren’t even socially frowned upon. On the contrary, many people see them as body art and a form of personal expression.
What is prohibited are gang symbols, but not just in tattoos. They are banned in any form: on walls, in the media, even on graves.
This shouldn’t surprise anyone. In Europe, Nazi symbols are banned, and no one is outraged by it.
In fact, we only restricted them in the media for one year (during the height of the war on gangs) and they are allowed again now. Yet we were scolded by the “international community” for that temporary measure, while Nazi symbols have been prohibited in Europe for 80 years.
So which is it?
What is acceptable for them is not acceptable for us?
The European argument is that banning those symbols is necessary to prevent a return to a past they do not want to relive.
Well, that is our argument too.

Ayer pedí autorización para publicar estas imágenes y mostraros algunos de los monstruos que he visto en el CECOT.
He estado en la cárcel de máxima seguridad de El Salvador en 2 ocasiones y mi sensación fue la misma: miras al Mal a los ojos.
Ahora están siendo juzgados y la comunidad internacional critica a Bukele y le acusa de “crímenes de lesa humanidad”.
Estos monstruos, 486 cabecillas de la Mara Salvatrucha, ordenaron más de 29.000 asesinatos en una población de algo más de 6.000.000 de habitantes durante 10 años, entre 2012 y 2022.
Los testigos protegidos han declarado que ordenaron «abrir las válvulas» (asesinar a salvadoreños de forma masiva) en cuatro ocasiones: la primera fue en 2012, luego en 2016, la tercera en 2019 y la última en 2022, la cual llevó al Gobierno a instaurar el régimen de excepción.
Son líderes de pandillas bien conocidos, la mayoría de ellos ya condenados por crímenes que cometieron personalmente, incluyendo asesinato, violación (a menudo violación seguida de asesinato), extorsión y secuestro.
El único aspecto “novedoso” es hacer responsables a los jefes por los crímenes llevados a cabo por sus organizaciones.
No han inventado ese principio. Se llama “responsabilidad de mando”, y se aplicó en Europa durante los Juicios de Núremberg.
Fijaos bien en las imágenes. ¿Veis algún preso con mal aspecto físico, con signos de tortura, desnutrido?
Lo que no tienen es libertad. Tampoco para salir del CECOT para ser juzgados y poder fugarse. El juicio se celebra de forma telemática, con todas las garantías legales.

The old legal system worked very well, but only in the Europe that existed between the end of WW2 and COVID-19 (and in less than five other countries).
It doesn’t work anymore. Legal systems respond to social contracts, and social contracts are, by definition, different in different societies and constantly changing.
However, we are not even applying a different system here. These “mass trials” and the prosecution of the leadership of criminal organizations for the crimes committed by their members are not a legal innovation; they are a recognized doctrine in international law. It is called “command responsibility,” and it was applied by the Allied countries in the Nuremberg Trials.
