@campbellclaret You are entitled to your view. But to many of us the Lords did the job the Commons failed to. It provided proper scrutiny and debate of a flimsy bill full of holes and which would have had alarming consequences if passed.

The conduct of a tiny minority in the House of Lords who have used every tactic imaginable to make sure the Assisted Dying Bill fails has been awful. I have long believed the Lords is simply not fit for purpose as a second chamber. This has cemented my view hard, and I imagine will make others realise just how ludicrous our legislative systems are. Sad day.

Holy. Fucking. Shit. You simply have to watch this to even believe it’s possible. Just listen to Sadiq Khan get the most updated crimes figures read out to him, and even with the facts made available, this Islamist weasel still lies through his teeth and denies reality. London is so cooked. And it really begs the question as to who or what is protecting the Mayor who seems to be untouchable no matter what he does. Britain is simply broken and I do not believe it can be fixed. It is too far gone and the people are still too cowardly to rise up and fight for it.

Rory, I am married to a Muslim; you talk crap about pretty much everything. Many, many liberal Muslims, esp. women, actively despair at the hardline clerics, factions and Muslim Brotherhood fellow travellers that we are importing into the UK without a thought as to consequences, to say nothing of the quantities of illegal migrants from cultures that practise a) child marriage, b) open hostilty to non-Muslims and c) paedophilia in various cultural disguises. And we haven't even touched on cultural issues with legal migration. I know you are called Florence of Arabia, but may be talk to women living in some areas of London now. Keep going, John Cleese.

🚨 JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon just dropped an UNEXPECTED take on Iran. “It’s much more important that this be successfully completed, than what the market does.” Dimon says the markets are unpredictable right now, but regardless, EVERYONE should be hoping for Trump to succeed in Iran. DIMON: “I think the market...you know, markets are unpredictable and it’s hard for me to tell you exactly what.” “But I think they’re just looking at is there a chance something can go wrong?” “Now we should all hope nothing goes wrong. We should all hope that these bad people are...you know, that we win this thing and clean up straits and that Iran is no longer a threat to anybody.” “The markets will be concerned until it is over.” “But I think it’s VERY important...it’s much MORE important that this be successfully completed than what the market does.” Wall Street’s most powerful CEO just said winning in Iran is more important than the what stock market does in the short term.

So Christians praying near medical centers where they carry out terminations is arrestable as people are intimidated. But it is okay for people of another religion to take over public spaces for prayer and an offence for Christians to complain?

@JimFergusonUK But why does that affect UK? Virtually all our oil and gas comes from the North Sea (us and Norway 80%) or from the US (15%). Only 2% of supply is LNG from Qatar. Sure prices might go up, but there certainly won't be any shortages.

🚨 PETROL RATIONING — AND STARMER STILL WON’T ACT The warning is now out in the open. If the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, the UK is weeks away from a fuel crisis — and the government already has emergency plans ready: Petrol rationing Fuel prioritised for emergency services 50mph speed limits to cut consumption Let that sink in. Britain is preparing for shortages, restrictions, and disruption to daily life — not hypothetically, but operationally. And why? Because roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply flows through the Strait of Hormuz — and right now, that artery is under threat. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has made a direct request to allies: Help secure the shipping lanes. Send naval support. Keep global energy moving. And what did Keir Starmer say? He needed to “meet with his team”. Trump’s response was cutting: “You don’t need to meet with a team… you’re the Prime Minister.” This is the reality. While America moves to prevent a global energy crisis, Britain is preparing to ration fuel at home — because its leadership refuses to act decisively abroad. This isn’t caution. It’s paralysis dressed up as process. And the cost of that weakness? Could soon be felt at every petrol station, every supermarket, and every household in Britain.

Jared Kushner has no official role in government. No oversight. No accountability. So he can negotiate on behalf of the US government while shaking down gulf autocrats for billions and promising them god knows what. Staggering corruption.

@campbellclaret @ChrisMasonBBC @BethRigby @itvpeston Simplify the tax system. Slash the thousands of pages and you will remove the loopholes. Simple. And also put loads of accountants out of work. You guys said you were going to get rid of red tape. Like everything else - done nothing.

Reform is treated by much of the broadcast media as though it is the official Opposition and next government. Could @ChrisMasonBBC @BethRigby @itvpeston etc therefore please apply to this scam the same levels of scrutiny and news value as the lesser sums involved in the tax affairs of @AngelaRayner …. Thank you for your attention to this matter and well done @Gabriel_Pogrund

In 1973, petrol price surged - but no one thought of asking the gvt for an energy bailout. Now, it's the default reaction. The cost? More debt, higher tax and interest rates, cost-of-living squeezes. Matthew Syed on the case for breaking the cycle:- thetimes.com/comment/column…

NEW: Jared Kushner, one of the U.S. government’s chief negotiators in the Middle East, is working to raise $5B for his private equity firm from governments in the region, the New York Times reports. His team has already met with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which previously invested $2B in the firm. Corruption in broad daylight.

I can confirm that @marksandspencer are still discriminating against their female customers. Their store in Shoreham-by-sea has a clearly labelled ‘Men’s fitting room’ and a room labelled ‘Try On’ which can be used by women AND men.

Day 15 of our Christmas campaign. These are not just women’s lingerie fitting rooms, these are @marksandspencer mixed sex lingerie fitting rooms and they are open to men. Our old friends at M&S, purveyors of the nation’s underwear, are pulling a huge con trick on their female customer base, and subjecting female changing room assistants to the behaviour of predatory men. One woman’s dreadful shopping experience below – and the response from M&S is a shocker too. 1/5

Speaker Lindsay Hoyle was on a jolly to the British Virgin Islands when he says he learned Peter Mandelson was apparently a flight risk (unlikely). No surprise he was in the Caribbean. Long been branded ‘long-haul Hoyle’ at our expense, spending more than £320,000 of taxpayers’ cash on foreign jaunts up until last summer since becoming Speaker in 2019. He spent more than £200,000 on first and business class plane tickets plus tens of thousands more spent on chauffeur-driven cars, stays at luxury five-star resorts and restaurants. During a previous Caribbean tour in March 2023, he shelled out nearly £5,500 chartering private planes to hop between the islands of St Maarten, Montserrat, Anguilla and Antigua. In 2024, he spent £22,000 for a five-day trip to meet his counterpart in the Cayman Islands, staying at the Westin Grand, where his room was billed at £679 per night. His snout. Our trough. They really do take us for fools.
