Typically brilliant from @michaelgove on Brexit/Rejoin - a question that I think the Burnham premiership is going to make front and centre
Mike Gardner@mikegardner_wb

“Disastrous for our politics with no economic benefit”. Michael Gove schools a pro-EU questioner and audience on #bbcqt as to why Labour’s pre-election lies about respecting Brexit and their actions since, threaten to undermine, rather than help our economy.

11bp jump on the 10-year Gilt at the market open to 5.11%. The dynamic of this Makerfield by-election will be Andy Burnham making Green Party-appeasing noises, the Gilt Market will see yields jump, Burnham will have to qualify his comments. Rinse. Repeat. For Six Weeks.

The Pound is softer, yields are higher on the Josh Simons/ Burnham news. This is not trying to “constrain democratic choice” this is rational repricing of expectations for more Gilt issuance, and more inflation.

🚨NEW: An ally of Andy Burnham says he is intentionally going for a Reform-facing seat to show he can win and beat them in a general election A Labour source responds saying: "That might be believable if he hadn't already asked 26 other MPs first."

Whatever else this is, it is terrible writing, full of lame slogans, pathetic alliterative utterances, and cringing self-promotion. Clearly put together by an underpowered committee of spin-doctors. Hardly The West Wing.

The tropes of social democracy are totally exhausted and Wes Streeting has nothing to add to them. NHS: “the best of Britain” Reform UK: “dangerous nationalists” Wes himself: Look-at-me technocrat What a dull, tired series of ideas.

Streeting has resigned. In his departure letter to the prime minister, he warns of a “dangerous English nationalism”, slags off Reform, attacks Starmer’s “island of strangers” remarks and calls Brexit a “disaster”. That should bring the Red Wall flocking back.

Labour's confusion in a paragraph. Britain is a great, progressive nation - the only problem is the people in it (who keep voting Reform).

It seems to me that for the talk of soft left v moderates, the leadership shenanigans in Labour seem overwhelmingly personality/competence driven, and not really very ideological at all. The soft left have no real policy agenda beyond 'Shabana is a meanie, let's spend more'

Lab members know Miliband is unpopular with the wider electorate, and that it would be wrong to impose leader who lost in 2015 as PM without a general election

Ed Miliband’s Energy Independence Bill includes… Banning new oil and gas from the North Sea. He is not making us more independent. He is making us more reliant on foreign imports. He is utterly deluded. We will fight him every step of the way.

This is 100% because we don't allow trans self ID and the Supreme Court ruled that sex overrules gender ID. Which is perfectly sensible. We have not gone backwards, other countries are nuts.

A cause for national shame. This is the Rainbow Map for LGBTI+ rights across Europe. Until 2015, the UK was top. We've now collapsed down the rankings - and are the worst in Western Europe. We're now near Albania.

The Turing scheme supports disadvantaged young Britons who want to study abroad - including in the EU, but also around the world. Replacing this with Erasmus will *restrict* opportunities for young people, plus the UK will have to pay extra to subsidise EU participants. Mad.
