This perspective doesn’t get enough traction: Putin’s “SMO” has now lasted just 2 months less than the Soviet war against Nazi Germany (1941-45). By this point, the Red Army was closing in on Berlin. Russia? Still stuck around Pokrovsk, 41 km from Donetsk, where they started almost 4 years ago. I was there a year ago. They’ve advanced only 8 km, at massive cost in lives.

In the future, Europeans should look back on this time as the greatest shame that this was allowed to happen.
