The spark that lit the war on trans people in the UK started when I went on BBC Woman’s Hour in 2017. At the time I was an ITV Loose Woman and Channel 5 newsreader. I was invited onto WH for what I was expecting to be a regular light showbiz interview - but straight away, Jenni Murray was snotty as hell - asking “What qualifies YOU to present a show for women? Have you even read Sheila Jeffries? Should women shave their legs?” Peering like an owl over the glasses perched on the bottom of her nose. A few days later, she wrote a hit-piece double-page spread in The Times, saying I wasn’t a real woman, and all the usual terf garbage we now hear every day. Really horrible stuff. I complained - and the BBC suspended her for six months. Unthinkable now! Murray was removed from Woman’s Hour. Big story. The Right Wing press went absolutely ballistic - and from that point in early 2017, the UK ‘Gender Critical’ movement took off.

Marandi condemned the threat against his life and Elon Musk for allowing such content to be posted in the first place. A verified account on X (formerly Twitter) has posted a $1 million bounty targeting University of Tehran professor @s_m_marandi, labeling him an IRGC-aligned academic and demanding he be captured “alive.” Professor Marandi has condemned the platform and Elon Musk, calling the bounty an act of support for terrorism. The ad has not been removed by X as of publication.

So you’re allowed to put a bounty on the head of a political commentators? Imagine the role was reversed it would be all over mainstream media.

It's also notable that @s_m_marandi was born in the United States. I wonder if Hegseth's threats to "hunt down" those who harm US citizens would apply to those threatening Dr. Marandi.

Absolutely disgusting. People get censored and cancelled everyday for unpopular opinions, but this is OK?

This means that a verified account with a paid partnership wants to kidnap me, torture me, and murder me. @elonmusk and his employees at @X refuse to remove this, so it’s clear that they support such a terror operation. This isn’t surprising - after all, they support genocide.

My friend @s_m_marandi is facing threats against his life because he dares to speak out. Nevermind the fact that it's often times the Western press that asks for his perspective. I stand in solidarity with Professor Marandi. @Support needs to step in here.

This is a reprehensible post for X to allow, targeting @s_m_marandi and putting a bounty on him. It is also a "Paid partnership." Imagine the outcry if a pro-Palestinian or pro-Iranian group did this with Israelis or Americans. Criminal charges would be filed.
