No way Maddison posts that insta story if he genuinely didn’t feel it was a penalty. I was right in front of it, genuinely couldn’t have had a better view, and I was astonished that it wasn’t given in real time, never mind with the intervention of VAR. The higher-ups at Spurs are full of pathetic cowards because not one of them have ever challenged any of the decisions that have gone against us this season. If they actually put pressure on the PGMOL, maybe we wouldn’t be mugged off all the time.

@blthfc It’s going to be very diff to get that toothpaste back in the tube. Unless they are willing to have a whole bunch of games finish 5x5 to start the year until the players adjust to having the laws of the game actually enforced.

PGMOL have to change something over the summer. It’s not normal that every week the discussion is about rules and decisions and not the football. No one knows what a foul is. No one knows what a handball is. Corners have become melees. Probably the worst officiated season ever.

@nickimoraa I always pick my seat when I buy my ticket. Are there that many people waiting for the airline to randomly assign them a spot when they get to the airport?

I was on a 4-hour flight, aisle seat, front section paid extra specifically so I could get off quickly and avoid the airport stampede. Boarding finishes, we’re settling in, and this woman taps my shoulder. She’s got a toddler on her hip and a husband hovering behind her like emotional support luggage. She asks if I can switch seats so their “little family can sit together.” I look at her seat: middle row, back of the plane. Not even a window. Just… economy suffering. I politely say no, I paid extra for this seat. She immediately shifts tone“It’s just a seat, we’re a family.” Now here’s where it gets interesting. The flight attendant comes over, and instead of backing me up, she tries the classic “let’s find a solution” approach. Suddenly I’m being asked to compromise like I’m in a corporate meeting and not a passenger who planned ahead.

@AlexiLalas The old airport was built before all the security. You could park about 25 yards from your gate inside the circle, walk through the doors and right onto the plane. Horrible for connections, great to fly in and out of.

New KC airport is great. Small enough to be manageable, but big enough to accommodate modern travel expectations. It’s one example of why KC attracted 4 World Cup teams to use KC as base camp (Netherlands, England, Argentina, and Algeria.)

@Schneider_CM Everyone just keeps ignoring the elephant in the corner: Make the athletes employees of the school. It seems like the most logical solution.

My taxpayer money is now being used so the University of Wisconsin can pay athletes, giving it a competitive advantage over my alma mater, a private school. Just a disgrace on all counts.

I always chuckle when I see a company post a job listing for a corporate counsel with 5+ years of BigLaw experience and a starting salary of $150,000. Like, you know that’s over a 50% pay cut for them, right?

@andrew_koenig @arthur_spirling The expensive ticket gets you an experience that is just barely above tolerable and only looks good in comparison. Other than the seat, they are much the same, late flights, missed connections, lost bags, TSA waits, crowded concourse, etc.

@arthur_spirling That plus the fact that the airlines go out of their way to make the cheapest fares unpleasant in order to give people who can afford to pay substantially more than that an incentive to do so.

Not really my field, but a big reason economy airplane travel isn’t more pleasant is that passengers are really price sensitive and just want the cheapest fare.

@redheadranting Inconveniencing passengers while boarding costs them less than they make on checked bags, I guess. People shop on price, then complain. The public in general will not pay more for better service.

Why don't airlines incentivize checked bags? I would gladly check a bag, but it costs $35 each way. Then I get to the plane and they tell me I have to check my bag because there's not enough room for all the carry-ons. Make a checked bag free - like it used to be - so I can overpack again. I don't mind waiting at baggage claim if I can bring a few more pairs of shoes.

Not sure when this happened, but the NCAA has gone away from timers at NCAAs. The official pushes the plunger, and that's all there is. My first NCAA Championship meet was in 2009 when I was a student at Texas A&M - as a timer.
