@Ferndiggity Given cats are actually demons, I think the answer is clear Kidding. Beautiful painting.

Somone on another social media platform just commented that they've been listening to me "since the 70s". My first album was released in 1989. I wonder who they were actually listening to. -> -> ->

I used to believe in God. Now, I simply believe him. —————— How does this strike you? Testing out some phrasing.

@gpackiam Very similar process. Great to see! In your experience, how much is too much (or not enough) to give other preachers on your team and ministry leaders in your ministry (such as worship and graphics), and by when in order to stay in sync?

Your preaching doesn’t have to feel like starting from scratch every week. Most pastors get worn out not because they’re preaching too much but from having no systems for it. Here are 4 simple practices that will transform your weekly prep:

What is it called when you’re perpetually in the right place at the right time? There are entire days, maybe even months and years, where it’s like I’ve got a straight IV going of liquid luck because of how every moment seems to be in total alignment with the universe.

@Ferndiggity Mark is an absolutely incredible artist. He has a new project coming out that’s shifted from desert to forest and it’s breathtaking!

Matthew 26:26-28 “Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread…and said, ‘Take, eat; this is my body.’” Take… eat… Through one tree came ruin. Through another comes redemption. Hallelujah, what a Savior. (2/2)

Genesis 3:6 “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree…she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” On this night we remember a particular meal. (1/2)

…but the insight that emerges from the thread of this otherwise disparate collection is unparalleled. Try it sometime, you’ll be amazed what you learn about yourself and the world around you.

One of my favorite things to do is peruse the aisles of a library, collect a few titles that grab me, and spend an hour or two reading various pieces of them all. It may not seem like deep work (after all, how can you possibly get to the depth of any one book with this approach),

@lukedsimmons Solid. Always painful but necessary. Today’s sermon had 1200 words cut. Similar with the Easter sermon I’m working on too. Part of why I began sermon prepping 2 months out (the other reason is to give time to apply the text to myself first, and speak authentically from there)

2. Make painful cuts Editing is more than cutting, but not less. Places to consider cutting: • Extra illustrations • Long intros • Cross-references • Quotes (overrated anyway) • Not-core insights • Explaining exegetical work It hurts. But the sermon is better for it.

You may not care about the Oscars, but the awards contain a lesson for preachers: Every film nominated for Best Editing is also up for Best Picture. Great storytelling and communication requires strong editing. 5 essentials for effective sermon editing: 🧵

@ajfworship Thank you for sharing @ajfworship — this one was all Grace, but I got to work behind the scenes mixing and producing! And Keiko Ying just took it over the top with her cello. Brought literal tears to my eyes hearing her pass the first time.

@lukedsimmons He’s done this a dozen times now, so he’s wondering if he ever wants to preach again bc of how burdensome it is. Seems he’s panicked at missing a transitional line and not knowing what to do if he blanks so he straight up memorizes like a method actor. Thoughts welcome. 2/2

@lukedsimmons Got a unique example here. Working with a guy who ABSOLUTELY CRUSHED his first sermon. We were all blown away. Helped him develop content, sure, but from a delivery standpoint it was immaculate. Turns out he ran through the sermon 2-3 times daily for 2 straight weeks. 1/

3 ways for a new preacher to get better faster: 1. Do a full run-through in an empty room a few days before 2. Gather a small group to give input on application and illustrations before you preach 3. Ask an experienced leader for specific feedback

@Ferndiggity Incredible record and song. To this day, I can’t play an Eb chord on the piano and not simultaneously hear the opening of “Sing to Jesus.”

I poured my guts into this record, The Shadow Of Your Wings. This song is a co-write with my pal Rich Nibbe. Harmony vocals are by Alison Krauss. Strings are Turtle Island String Quartet. Laura Griffiths played oboe open.spotify.com/track/1I1ShJC4…
