Seems I have upset a fair bit of Europeans with this one so let me clarify because the point is getting twisted. I am not saying you can schedule around the entire planet. You obviously can't do that. The time zones make it impossible and I get that completely. I am a Canadian hockey fan who watched Canada and the US play an Olympic gold medal game in the morning my time because it was in Milan Cortina. Not ideal, but you accept it, because the event was in Europe. I have set alarms for the middle of the night to catch events. That is the deal when the tournament is somewhere else. This is my point exactly. When you are the host, the schedule should lean toward you. This World Cup is being staged by three North American hosts at an estimated cost north of 20 billion dollars. The least FIFA can do is put the marquee knockout games in a window that works for the market paying to host them. I am not asking for anything that the non-North American hosts don't already get. Just put a semifinal between Spain & France somewhere better than 3pm on a Tuesday.

People may not want to admit this but the United States could easily host every World Cup and rotate cities without any issues. The number of high end facilities and venues across the country is insane. Think of the cities/venues that are NOT hosting matches

Just collected these old faithfuls from Timpson after their roughly three yearly re-soling. Grafton brogues by Church’s. These are the shoes that I wore when telling the “Three Men” joke at the Edinburgh gala in 2010. And I’d already had them a couple of years then. And furthermore, I actually bought them, very slightly used, on EBay. Might be twenty years old now. They are getting nicely worn in now anyway and I am confident will see me out. This, imho, is the best way to be “sustainable” etc with your purchases. Buy the very best quality and maintain it.
