@Peter_Tutton @debt_diaries @Politicana So there are no contracts Peter? As Scottish Power stated yesterday? They told me if the client can’t afford to pay the debt in their max period of 5 years, Stepchange have authority to speak direct to a team who deal with 60+ month arrangements I can’t do that for some reason?

@hmtreasury That's an impressive response from mortgage lenders. Thinking back to 2008-2010, , broader mortgage safety nets were important for borrowers needing longer to recover. Thinking ahead six months, are safety nets still there for those who will need them?

@Andrew_F_Smith @StepChange @TheFCA Agree FCA changed the game with creditor behaviour. However decision to introduce bailiff regulation is sitting in front of Ministry of Justice ministers right now. So MOJ need to press 'go' button NOW. Then we can talk about how to implement.

@Andrew_F_Smith @StepChange @TheFCA That's a good thought Andrew. I'm not sure FCA will be simple way to regulate bailiffs... but we certainly need public sector debt practice brought up to FCA standards and effective independent regulation of bailiffs, which is long overdue

@StepChange I think the first step should be to bring all debt collection activities, including public sector, into @TheFCA authorisation and supervision. This is simpler than bailiff regulation and would massively reduce use of bailiffs
