It does seem odd - at a time when people are going to beaches, visiting garden centres, and holding demonstrations - that we’re still not allowed to play cricket. Especially when the entire future of the game may be at stake... thetimes.co.uk/article/cricke…

Editor-in-chief is one of those funny titles, where the last two words should make you more senior but in fact make you less. Is there a #TopTen in this, @JohnRentoul?

Actually there’s an excellent book called “Cousins” which sees the English civil war, the American War of Indpendence and the American Civil War as all part of a continuum

@afneil And was in many ways an extension of the English Civil War with its theme of opposition to arbitrary power which had driven much of the first half 17C emigration in the first place

Most of the people on the Indepence side were also of British origin. The American War of Indepence was basically a British civil war. One of the key dividing lines was Ulster-Scotch Presbyertian (independence) and English Anglicans (pro-Crown). First ever identity war.

Fine, everyone can assess their own risk. Problem is they are then moving the dial for everyone not just themselves.

The UK lockdown is starting to feel like some sort of attenuated, ceremonial fiction, a bit like the English monarchy's claim to the throne of France up to 1801

It’s not even like she’s actually interrogating him. It’s more like having an unpleasant relative at a family gathering who just sits there criticising everything and everybody #r4today
