The recent news that a wolf pack has been culled at a Kent zoo is both heartbreaking and deeply concerning according to Born Free While our sympathies lie with the keepers who cared for these wolves, this tragedy raises urgent questions about the ethics of keeping highly social, intelligent animals in captive environments that cannot meet their complex needs. In the wild, wolves live in rich, dynamic family groups shaped by cooperation, communication and the freedom to disperse, avoid conflict or establish new territories. Captivity removes these choices. When tensions arise in enclosed spaces, animals often have nowhere to escape. Conflict escalates and too often ends in tragedy, whether through culling or through the conflict itself. This is not conservation. It is a system that places animals in situations where their natural behaviours become liabilities. Instead of addressing the root issue - that some species cannot be kept humanely in captivity - facilities often respond reactively, framing lethal outcomes as the “only” or “kindest” option. But if a zoo cannot safely meet the social needs of a species, should it be keeping that species at all? Born Free believe it’s time for a serious reassessment of how and why complex, social species like wolves are kept in captivity. This poor mama lived her entire life on wire, never feeling anything soft. The wire cuts into the dogs' feet, leaving many of them with infected cysts. They struggle to walk or even stand. The prosecutor had the audacity to call this normal and humane. Save her. Now.

nature.scot/guga-hunt-stat… What a load of two faced unevolved bumpkins! Scotland bans hunting with dogs, which was argued to be a cultural thing, and yet allows this gross atrocity. Time you all got on the same page regarding animal welfare.

Whilst I do support a ban on this horrific practice, it is important to note that not all animals are properly stunned due to careless attitudes in the majority of murder establishments. The naive have a skewed perception of reality.
