#OTD 13 April 1960 a classic floodlight friendly with Athletic Bilbao ended in a 3-2 win. Despite pouring rain and strong winds both sides produced enterprising football. Motherwell surged ahead in 20 minutes when Pat Quinn headed a pass through to Ian St John and the internationalist finished in style. Five minutes later we were two up, Quinn was twice foiled before Willie Hunter rammed in a loose ball. In 32 minutes Mauri scored with a great shot via a post, and right on the interval Bilbao equalised through Marcaida’s header. The decisive goal was netted by St John just two minutes after the re-start. Motherwell: H Weir, McSeveney, Strachan; Aitken, Martis, McCann; Young, Quinn, St John, Hunter A Weir. Bilbao: Lopez, Orve, Canito; Mauri, Eturo, Maguregui; Arteche, Marcaida, Arieta, Uribe, Echeve. mfcheritagetrust.org

Having watched this again, the Hearts player actually headers the ball away from the Motherwell player. IFAB describe "Playing in a dangerous manner is any action that, while trying to play the ball, threatens injury to someone (including the player themself)" Fair argument to say it's dangerous play by the Hearts player as heading the ball while lying on the crowd opens you up to the chance of taking a boot to the head.... x.com/i/status/20430…

The penalty that turned the game in Hearts favour. Seeing a lot of complaints about this online. Personally can't see how they don't give it

@KTthegoalie @PettyWulliegrew The 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature a total of 170 match officials, including 52 referees, 88 assistant referees, and 30 video match officials (VAR). Not one Scottish referee named on that list. 🤔
