I respectfully concur with the statement issued by South Africa’s representative at the UN yesterday. The only omission was to make reference as well to Putin and Russia’s ongoing grievous breach of international law and the UN Charter. There must be consistency demonstrated by all - both Trump and Putin have acted in breach of international law. Might can never be right and the specter of powerful nations throughout the world wantonly and brazenly breaching international law is deeply worrying. Whilst corrupt, violent, dictators and tyrants like Maduro ironically themselves have no respect for international law, or for the rule of law itself, it is a mistake if we think the only way to deal with them is by using illegal methods to remove them from power.
