The total number of votes cast (for all parties) is verified at polling station level (and polling stations don't exactly match wards), but are then mixed with other polling stations to be separated into parties and counted.

But learning it does tend to open up a window into welsh culture that you wouldn't otherwise have & gives you a better understanding of our country.
