“This world is in urgent need - desperate, crucial need - and is crying out for love, your love. It cannot survive without it” 5 years on Twitter. Let my last post here be a positive one - my daughter’s wedding, a day so full of love. I did a reading, words by Nick Cave. Lush ❤️

@NikkiNonJones I really miss what this place used to be. I dip in and out but I never feel like sharing anything here anymore. So lovely to see your post. Hope you have a great week! x

@AdamHighcliffe Thank you for this. Still feels like there’s limited recognition of (or even interest in) exactly how much children and young people have been clobbered. Also these are our adults of the future. Seems v shortsighted to rely on telling them to ‘resilient’ their way out of this

March 20th is exactly 5 years since I picked my son up from school ahead of UK lockdown. It would be his last day there for 6 months. What happened next was a betrayal of all our children. No, I'm not debating Covid, or protesting lockdown. I'm talking about what came after. 🧵

Hey again @clarksshoes, your customer care peeps couldn’t help me but they missed the point. I’m not after a refund. I want to be able to repair my years-of-wear-left-in-them boots rather than buy a new pair every winter. My question was about sustainability.

Hey @clarksshoes, my favourite boots need reheeling. But trusty cobbler won’t do it, he says the way you construct the soles means a repair won’t stick 🙁. Just wondering how this fits with your sustainability commitments if true?

It is good, I feel, to begin a new year, or a new week, with a little reservoir of gladness, as a conscious way of consecrating our days with the blessed fact that we weren’t promised any of this — that the universe didn’t owe us mountains and music, that we didn’t have to be born, and yet here we are with our physics and our poems and our ever-breaking, ever-broadening hearts. themarginalian.org/2024/12/31/som…

Currently a bit broken. The last time my mental health crashed (yonks ago), my boss tried to sack me while I was on sick leave. Recovery’s much harder when you also have to battle your workplace. V grateful that, this time round, I have the loveliest, most supportive colleagues.

Feeling unable to cope with any extra/unexpected hassles atm but am very grateful to the lovely dentist who gently suggested we take my infected tooth out right then and there rather than waiting till the new year (my idea). The world is much brighter today ☺️

One of the greatest deceptions of our time is the lie that that single mom on welfare or the kid getting free food at school is the problem instead of the ultra rich hoarding more wealth than billions of people have combined and getting tax breaks for doing so.

@juliette0307 I sometimes wonder how I'd get on if I was a teenager today. Not that well I fear.

@PhilippaWatkin4 yes i felt sad/lost/lonely when growing up. i also had some friends, but none of my depressive episode where elevated to an identity i could claim to find a group of likeminded people, thus cementing it further. it's good to find you're not alone, it's bad when it becomes you.

Asked my teenager what they thought might be behind the decline in young people’s mental health. Covid (partic lockdowns) and the school environment (very ableist) were their top suggestions. And social media plays a part but doesn’t deserve the hefty blame adults attach to it.

@juliette0307 I hear you. But I do get their frustration when social media is held up as the culprit without any consideration of the wider factors involved. It can be pretty judgmental as well, which is a bit rich when it's adults, not kids, who design social media to be so addictive ...

@PhilippaWatkin4 If people were able to recognise what is hurting them so articulately, we'd be able to be less hurt, so i wouldn't trust them so much as to believe social media doesn't play a HUGE part in it.

Women are under-represented in clinical trials. In healthcare, as in other walks of life, men are seen as the default humans. Women’s bodies (and the conditions that affect them) are under-researched. This is the gender health gap, and why a plan for women’s health is needed. 3/

... And that while women live longer than men, they spend less of their life in good health. That women experience poorer healthcare. Their concerns, often, aren’t taken seriously, and women are labelled anxious or over-emotional. Their pain is normalised. 2/

The Welsh Government’s long-awaited women’s health plan is here! This isn’t just about conditions that only affect women (although that is half the population so hardly niche), it’s also about the fact that women are twice as likely as men to die after a heart attack … 1/
