This is correct. Extraordinary that we have this game changing moment unfolding in front of us and most elite discourse is still fake news about AI water usage or three-year-old angst about hallucinations.
Sam@Discoplomacy

Do 🫵 YOUR 🫵 civic duty and make sure anyone/everyone you know working in the Defence/Foreign Policy/National Security establishment in Britain is aware of the Mythos news. Ignorance is not an excuse anymore. It’s going to get weird: strap in.

@Kasparov63 So it’s penalizing the computer for going through multiple possibilities, but not penalizing the human for going through multiple possibilities in their head before clicking the answer? That seems like a test that is designed to produce a specific pre-defined result.

@redaction We tried to build this! We started out with maths for machine learning, building it manually, and tried to do a community contribution model to scale it Sadly we never managed to crack adoption But maybe it’s possible with LLMs now reddit.com/r/learnmachine…

I’m still disappointed we haven’t seen a breakout “tool for thought” for the ai era.

@rosie_wrighting True, but your party is doing almost nothing to fix unaffordable housing or student loans. In fact, you've made both worse. Interest rates on student loans are up and repayment thresholds frozen And have completely failed on housebuilding (see absolute disaster in London)

Just a reminder despite what Kemi Badenoch says she would do now, my generation isn’t struggling by accident. Tory decisions meant we’ve faced unaffordable housing, insecure renting and student loans that grow faster than we can pay them off. Young people know the Tories did this, that’s why they voted them out.

It is possible to understand why computational methods alone (AI) cannot discover novelty in principle. A consciousness can only do it, & AI can help provide data. If we one day can create things capable of sentience (consciousness), then they will also be able to do it.

@itsandrewgao You would need to specify that you stop flipping the coin when it breaks for it to be 90% If you can flip a broken coin, the LLM is correct

No LLM has been able to solve this question I came up with. The answer is 90%, right?

… but the Green MPs all voted to tax Montessori education, Natalie. Montessori is a global public good but Green Party policy is to tax it out of existence in the UK? 300 of 1,150 Montessori schools have closed since their last Ofsted inspection leaving the UK with next to no mixed-age class education & teacher-training to speak of. Time for a rethink @ZackPolanski?

Marginal tax rates for graduates with student loans – add interest and another 6% for postgrads. £25,000: 37% £50,270: 51% £100,000: 71% This issue – I first wrote about it in 2021 – is now beginning to get the political attention it deserves.

@yogurtraisin @NoJusticeMTG @OliDugmore There is no pension pot you paid into — UK state pensions are PAYG. The average pensioner will receive ~1.5–2× what they paid in real terms. The gap is funded by today’s workers, who face ~25% higher lifetime pension costs per worker and later retirement and student loans

“Low tax” conservatives would scream bloody murder if I suggested raising the top rate of tax by 9% Perfectly happy to whack grads with it for 40 years, though, and scratch their chins about the birth rate

Reforming bloated public sector pensions would save £37 billion a year. With public sector pensions constituting a £1.4 trillion unfunded liability, new employees should be moved to funded defined contribution schemes. New @Policy_Exchange report by Ben Sweetman and me. 🧵

@BenjaminEHowe @PeterStefanovi2 You’re right, the interest rate is based on earnings. The net effect is the same / similar though. It’s the only loan I’ve ever heard of that works this way

@Phillips_M_G @PeterStefanovi2 Hmm? It's well known that the interest rate increases as the grad's earnings increase, but I don't think they increase the interest rate as the balance decreases / as more is paid off? Do you have some evidence that you can share?
