This one explains something a lot of people experienced but couldn't make sense of. Psychiatrist Otto Kernberg at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York spent decades developing the clinical framework for narcissistic personality organization, one of the most referenced bodies of work in modern psychiatry. His core finding about what happens when someone with narcissistic personality structure is rejected, criticized or abandoned is precise. Healthy people, when hurt by someone leaving, feel grief. Loss. Sadness. The emotional response matches the content of the event. Narcissistic injury is Kernberg's term for any experience that threatens the inflated self-image produces a different response entirely. The threat bypasses the grief pathway and routes directly to rage. Not hurt. Not sadness. Rage. The reason is structural. Kernberg documented that narcissistic personality organization involves a fragile self-concept that requires continuous external validation to remain stable. The people around the narcissistic individual function, psychologically, as mirrors reflecting back the image the person needs to maintain of themselves. When you left or drew a boundary, or stopped performing the role, you didn't wound their heart. You cracked the mirror. And the mirror cracking produces not grief but the specific rage of someone whose sense of self has been destabilized. This is why the retaliation felt so disproportionate. Why the person who claimed to love you became suddenly focused on destroying you. Why the response to your exit felt like something other than heartbreak. It was. You were not dealing with a person who loved you and was in pain. You were dealing with a person whose self-image required you and who responded to its destabilization accordingly. The disproportionate response was not about you. It was about what you stopped providing.

@PhoenixDivine3 @HerbsandDirt Most if not all towns in Mass require vaccination proof if you have a dog. Every year they send out voting docs threatening vote eligibility if you don't complete the form. Always requiring how many dogs you own.

They’re not coming after our pets in an overt way. Of course not. They’re making vaccinations for our pets mandatory for everything: Boarding Training Travel. THEN, our pets get sick. Young. And since private equity is buying up all the vet hospitals & clinics, the cost of treating your pet is in the thousands. Often for minor procedures. So we deplete our savings; we put it on credit cards, until our options run out, and we no longer have the funds to maintain their health that the vaccines & treatments caused. THAT’S how they’re coming after our pets.
