Nielsen just published the most-streamed Star Wars content of 2025. A New Hope. Phantom Menace. Rogue One. Top three. Not one sequel trilogy film in the top ten. Gen Z watches The Clone Wars. Millennials watch Andor. Everyone is watching the Lucas era. Now people are reporting Lucasfilm is internally discussing branching the sequel trilogy off into its own continuity using the World Between Worlds. Effectively decanonizing it without calling it a reboot. Disney already did the quiet version of this. On April 29 they reset half of Galaxy's Edge from sequel era to original trilogy era and stripped every reference to the First Order from Oga's Cantina. A focus group of teens asked about Star Wars gave this response: "I like the old stuff, but the new stuff… nah." Disney spent $4 billion on Lucasfilm to build a new generation of Star Wars fans around Rey and Kylo Ren. The streaming data, the park decisions, and the focus groups all say the same thing. It didn't work. Should this be decanoninzed?

In 2013, the entire internet (rightfully) cooked Microsoft for the Xbox One’s mandatory 24-hour check-in DRM. It was a PR disaster so bad they had to do a total 180 before launch just to survive. Massive waves of people fled to PlayStation, claiming they were "voting with their wallets" for "the gamers" and "ownership." Fast forward to 2026, and those same people have spent over a decade building massive digital libraries in the Sony ecosystem, only to find themselves dealing with the exact same "periodic authentication" DRM they claimed to hate back then. The funniest part? Watching those same people now do absolute mental gymnastics to defend it. "It's just a bug!" "It's for security!" "Who stays offline for 30 days anyway?" The gaslighting is incredible. Turns out the DRM wasn't defeated in 2013; it just waited for you to get comfortable and trapped in a digital ecosystem.

@ManaByte False equivalency. You forget what the issue actually was in 2013. The Xbox scheme was to require registration and check-in on PHYSICAL games. Xbox wanted to prevent sharing and resale of physical games. Don't you remember this ad? This ad was not about digital game check-in!
