Every morning I pray with my best friend. My dog. Here is a strong opinion using factual references to Oregon law and Oregon Health Plan policy: Ed Diehl voted to continue taxpayer-funded healthcare for non-registered immigrants in Oregon. Oregonians deserve to understand the full nexus of what that means under current Oregon law and Oregon Health Plan policy. Under Oregon law and OHP policy, taxpayer-funded healthcare includes gender-affirming treatments. Oregon statutes ORS 414.769 and ORS 743A.325 specifically require coverage for “gender-affirming treatment” determined medically necessary by providers. Oregon Health Authority policy further confirms that OHP covers hormone therapy, puberty blockers, mental health treatment, and certain transition-related procedures. Adolescents are also included under Oregon’s standards and criteria. This is not political spin. It is documented Oregon law and state policy. Relevant statutes and policy include: • ORS 414.769 • ORS 743A.325 • Oregon Health Authority OHP Gender-Affirming Care Policy • HB 2002 (2023) expanding protections for gender-affirming care coverage Oregonians are already struggling with affordability, rising taxes, and a strained healthcare system. Yet Salem politicians continue expanding taxpayer obligations while ignoring the concerns of working families. If elected officials vote to expand publicly funded healthcare programs, they own the consequences and the policies connected to those programs. Taxpayers have every right to question where their money is going and whether these priorities reflect the values and needs of the people footing the bill.According to the Oregon Health Authority, OHP covers hormone therapy, puberty blockers, and other gender-affirming treatments, including for adolescents under certain criteria. ORS 414.769 requires Oregon medical assistance programs to include gender-affirming treatment.
