Right now, 8 NFL teams need a new HC, and others are in need of offensive and defensive coordinators. Out of the 8 teams with HC vacancies, this is my prediction, in order from most tempting to least tempting:
BAL: Ravens are the best option out there. They need a guy that can rally the locker room and keep his team in the game and close it out on top. But they need a defensive guy, and if they can lure him away from Minnesota, Brian Flores would thrive in Baltimore. Give Lamar a top 5 defense and that team could go very far
NYG: Yes, the Giants have the second most tempting HC vacancy with young offensive talent and a top defensive line. They need a culture change at HC. A guy that can shift the culture from losing to winning in a matter of one or two seasons. That guy is John Harbaugh.
MIA: A team in dysfunction, but with a great young RB in DeVon Achane. A team that also needs a culture change, but is going to do a complete reset on most of their core pieces, like QB, WR1, and new pieces on defense. This guy is more than likely going to be a placeholder for a season or two until the right guy becomes available. The guy now could probably be Packers DC Jeff Hafley. But the Bills need to play…
CLE: This team is… something. A rookie backfield with Sanders and Judkins, as well as the soon to be DROY in Carson Schwesinger, and new all time season sack leader in Myles Garrett. The Browns need an offensive guy, badly. The defense is already great, but the offense just needs the right guy controlling the offense. And Mike McDaniels is a perfect choice to help Sanders up his game at QB, and to give Judkins a huge jump after his already great rookie season.
ATL: The Falcons are pretty much in the same spot the Dolphins are in, but with a much better defense. Morris may have juiced up the defense, but the offense faltered. With an already really good number 1 WR in Drake London and top RB in Bijan Robinson, the perfect guy to elevate him and the entire offense is Klint Kubiak. He could turn London into Julio Jones 2.0, and make Bijan the best RB in the league in a landslide.
LV: The team that’s on the clock. Fernando Mendoza is looming near, and the Raiders are coming off probably their worst season since 2006. They need a guy that can rally the locker room, even in lost seasons. But they really need a guy to fix that defense. Vance Joseph could stay in the division and help rejuvenate that piss poor Raiders defense and give Maxx Crosby some much needed help.
TEN: A team that already has their number 1 guy throwing the rock, and not much else after that. Besides Jeffery Simmons. They need someone experienced. Someone who’s been there before and has had success. Kevin Stefanski is that guy. And Tennessee has money to spend to give Ward some help on the outside.
ARI: Last but not least, Arizona. This might be the last job that stays open, knowing how bad that situation is. Possible change at QB, no superstar offensive player, Budda Baker’s only there to get butts in seats at this point. The funny option is bringing back Kliff Kingsbury, but the realistic option is probably Jesse Minter, DC of the Chargers. A guy with experience under both Harbaughs, and in college and the NFL. They can’t keep going with the “had that one season” kind of guy anymore. They need a guy that’s been around the block and has learned under two of the better HCs in the last 20 years.
WILDCARD PICK:
BUF: If the Bills lose this weekend, there will be a clean sweep in coaches and probably front office too. So who would take that job? Hard to say, but what offensive minded coach would say no to Josh Allen and James Cook? But that defense is very bad, especially against the run. And who was very good against the run this year? The Rams. If McDermitt loses and gets fired, the Bills should go after Chris Shula, DC of the Rams. He can help that defense out and give Josh Allen the help he needs on defense to give his team their first Super Bowl championship.
