Little reminder! Had some absolutely cracking flags come in so far!! #AntarcticFlags
Fiona Sheriff 👨‍👩‍👧‍👧🌍@fiona_616

If you are sending me #AntarcticFlags remember to send them to me by the 20th Nov. I’m already sending them to scientists as I’m receiving them…so maybe soon we will have our first photos of the 24-25 year, although I’m fairly certain nothing will beat this one! @UKPolarNetwork

@cjacks1 Oooo brilliant. Love this idea. My main hope is that they’ll be able to distinguish between the reasons people move and be able to start using the terminology in the correct context! Drives me mad.

#geographyteacher Wanting to plan a SOW on migration. What stories/concepts/patterns/themes do you think MUST be included?

@PickenGeog I’d try to talk to your history dept, see what they do too. Important for kids to know we’re a nation of migrants and have been for centuries. Read Robert Winder’s Bloody Foreigners if you can, amazing book.

@PickenGeog I've posted this before but this video is essential... youtu.be/tyaEQEmt5ls?si… I then get students to go home and ask about their migration story, we then plot it on a map using Google sheets ..

@LenehanNiall Yesss, this is what sparked the idea. I was thinking Geography club could look at current events and the geography behind them, as a lot has happened this summer!

@PickenGeog Always try to include something that is currently in the news. Last year, I looked at migration patterns as a result of the Russo-Ukraine war.

@PickenGeog I think it’s important to look at the stories of migrants crossing the Meditteranean Sea! This is a task I had adapted from the RGS. It explores the drivers of their migration and the barriers they faced in pursuit of security, push/ pull factors. Link: rgs.org/schools/resour….

@wychwoodgeog This sounds amazing. Interested to know how you announce this project? Do you just mention it in class or do you also post on social media?

Always a Geography Teacher! 🌏 💛
@PickenGeog I get the pupils to ask their parents for migration stories, and come up with a piece of work “What migration means to me?”. I have had the most incredible pieces in, including boat tickets and all sorts!

@GoodnotesApp Is there any chance of getting a colour fill tool on the next update please? I spend hours colouring in different sections of my diagrams and would get sooo much use out of this as a function 🙏🏼

Ideas for activities to incorporate International Day of Happiness celebrations into a bell task or as part of a bigger chunk of your lesson for both primary and secondary here - might be nice seeing as we r officially the 2nd most miserable country in the world 🤣🤣 @GeogMum

We only just got onto starting this last task but I wanted to show students they could restructure their answers away from an opportunities para and a challenges para to really show off their evaluation skills throughout. 10/10 fun, thoroughly enjoyed, recommend trying

Students copied an example of a 9 mark question at the top, took notes as we went through the slides, summarising with subheadings and then wrote a conclusion to evaluate.

Have changed our case study from the Sahara Desert to Mojave after seeing students craft much stronger responses in P1 last year. Decided to structure the lesson to highlight a revision strategy - Cornell notes
