I really love a more modern card that honors the throwback look. Few do it better than Topps Heritage. 2002 Topps Heritage Classic Renditions of Kordell Stewart. The moment I saw this Steelers logo on a card, I jumped at the chance to own it. They’re only a couple of bucks, and beautiful aesthetic card for a guy who loves vintage!

OTD in 1940…. Birth of the “Steelers” After 7 years as the Pirates, Pittsburgh’s pro football team changes its name to avoid further confusion with the more famous baseball team.

We need some more good vintage cards for today. I’m choosing a legendary, yet underrepresented member of Steelers history in the cardboard space. 1958 Topps of Jack Butler. Butler may have been one of the best DB’s during the 1950’s but he only has 3 standard issue Topps cards during his tenure. Also, the card incorrectly attributes only 18 ints to Butler. From 1951-1957, he had 41 ints. And was on his way to became the 2nd leading interceptor in league history.

Hammond Bears? Not far-fetched. In 1919, future Bears HOF members George Halas and Paddy Driscoll played for the pre-NFL Hammond Pros with home games at Cubs' Park. All went well until the owner started bouncing pay checks and the players had him arrested!
