Genuinely hopes Ben McCollum stays at Iowa. Not because I think it’s fun that coaches stay loyal to smaller programs when a blue blood comes calling. I hope he falls victim to that loyalty gimmick. Because I want him to think that he can replicate this season again. Because he won’t. And it’ll eat him alive. Over a span of a decade it’ll deteriorate his marriage. He’ll periodically beat his kids in an alcoholic manic rage year after year of NIT runs and falling short of any sort of real success. Then in 20 years, when the .44 is in his mouth, and the tears are rolling down his face, he’ll wonder why he never took that higher job, and what could’ve been, in a regret-filled, pathetic life that will lead to nothing other than a 6 foot grave in Iowa City and some rusted out high school gym named after him

Bennett Stirtz was somehow not one of the eight point guards to make an All-American team, but it’s very clear he’s a top three guard in college basketball. Stone cold killer.

@8675309jrk @circleherk But our Hawks lost because no one stepped up to be a secondary scorer (outside of Stirtz), they shot 23.8% FG% in the 2nd half compared to 57.1% in the first half, out rebounded by 17 (-8 ORB) and outscored in the paint by 28 (!!!).

@8675309jrk @circleherk I was there. They called the first half fine and fair. Better than most. IMO, they changed the way they officiated the game in the 2nd half and it benefited the bigger team (and Iowa didn’t adjust well i.e. get the ball deep into the lane). 1/2

McCollum's lack of energy in that 2nd half tells me all I need to know. The referees obviously changed the way they were calling that game, and it favored the other team. Terrible way to end an absolute magical season. So thankful for those kids. Memz that'll last a lifetime.🖤💛
