@AJamesMcCarthy Very true, be good to have the raw image/images, would love to tinker with that data.

The eclipse photo taken by the Artemis II crew has a lot of bright spots in the dark disc of the moon. Those aren't stars! Those are hot pixels- caused by the high ISO of the shot and exacerbated by the cosmic rays passing through the spacecraft and the camera sensor.

This is how it looks in real time as I capture these shots The bandpass of light is so narrow it has to be captured using a monochrome camera, and the chromosphere of the sun is shown as a silhouette so I invert it, which is why the sunspot is bright spot here.

The massive sunspot nearing the limb of the sun is changing rapidly, something is brewing! My guess is we'll see another good sized flare come soon, so I'm going to keep my eye on this instead of watching the game, more entertaining to me anyway!

This wasn't captured by Hubble or JWST. My first photo of 2026 shows the stunning Elephant Trunk nebula, a tower of hydrogen gas spawning new stars deep within. Captured using a simple telescope from my suburban backyard. You don't need to go to space to explore the universe.

@AJamesMcCarthy Thanks Andrew!! Nowhere near your level and this is just with an APS-C IMX571 OSC and a dual narrowband. Will get into widedield mono one day!

@PilotHangar You’re in Somerset? Those can take a bit due to the consolidated shipping method I used to keep costs down. It *should* arrive well before then, but if it doesn’t look like it will feel free to send me an email and I’ll send another overnight at no cost.

People keep sending me photos of their calendars arriving and it makes me so happy. I poured a lot of effort into the calendars this year, I’m glad it wasn’t wasted 🫶

Have you ever photographed this one before? 🤔 Say hello to Wolf-Rayet 134 in Cygnus! The WR catalog objects are known for their bubble-like shells of gas surrounding them. This is my latest attempt from the backyard, with a healthy amount of overall exposure time (by my standards) 😄 If you want to try this one yourself, look for it between the well-photographed Crescent Nebula and the Tulip Nebula. Who knew, right? 13.5 Hours Total Exposure (HOO + RGB Stars) Camera: bit.ly/4lMy93S Telescope: bit.ly/4aVL1QR Mount: bit.ly/40ts8AO

@AJamesMcCarthy Thanks Andrew! I'm always impressed with what a budget 8inch Newtonian (Sky-Watcher 200P-DS) can deliver with the right camera and filters. M33 with a CDK will be mesmerising! Which one is it?

I wanted to remind you of something. I’m not an astrophysicist. I’m a dropout. I don’t think I have abnormal intelligence. I’m just a guy that bought a cheap telescope and learned how to use it. I’m as average as it gets- the universe is as accessible to me as it is to you.

There is so much going on around the Pleiades that becomes evident with long exposures! Taurus is home to massive clouds of interstellar dust.

@AJamesMcCarthy Beautifully controlled Alnitak in this. Stunning as ever!! And to be fair anyone could dispel this myth with a DSLR and a tripod. Just shoot a 6s exposure of the great orion nebula and you see colours before even touching the sliders in your image editing software of choice.

Trying to dispel myths about astrophotos is a challenge. The presumption that everything in space is gray and color needs to be added manually has been hammered into people by years of poor science communication. Space is colorful, folks!
