Probably the most popular street in Rotterdam We have a sumptuous meal. I tell her I do not have any Euros in me as I forgot to convert. She tells me not to worry and, hear this.. She hands me her own credit card!!! Tells me to use it everyday for all my needs. Just that I should return it and pay back when I am sorted!! She blessed my life abroad in every possible way. Let me tell you something about the Honda Fit that people don’t say loudly… mostly because they’re busy enjoying it in silence. The first time you see it, you’ll probably underestimate it kidogo and say, “ahh hii ni ka small car tu, ya moving from point A to B, nothing serious,” and even laugh small because Nairobi has trained us to believe big cars = big life. Then you drive it for two days… just two… and suddenly your whole mindset starts shifting like rent prices in Kilimani. First of all, the space in this car is suspicious. Like genuinely suspicious. You fold the seats once and now you’re carrying your friends, shopping ya mwezi mzima, a random suitcase you didn’t plan for, and somehow there’s still space for bad decisions and soft life vibes. You’ll even start volunteering your car for errands like: “Let’s just use mine, it can fit…” Na inside you’re shocked too because you didn’t see this coming. Fuel consumption? This car does not drink fuel… it negotiates with it. Unajaza mafuta and before you know it you’ve done errands za Nairobi mzima, passed through traffic ya Waiyaki Way, maybe even a small road trip, and the fuel gauge is still behaving like it has manners. Kwanza sometimes it can give you 27km/litre of petrol. And Nairobi traffic? Ahh this is where the Fit shines like mtoto wa wenyewe. You start maneuvering kupitia jam with confidence you didn’t even know you had, squeezing into spaces that look illegal but somehow zinakubali tu. Because the AC works very well so you dont have to pen windows. Nairobi with tint, windows up na confidence utaingia everywhere. Parking yenye watu wanazunguka mara tatu, wewe unaingia once na unafit kama sahani kwa sink. Then slowly, without even realizing it, you become that person… The one who starts defending the Fit in conversations like a lawyer: “Fit si ndogo, it’s actually very practical… you people just don’t understand efficiency.” Kwanza there is a week I used it and it used to fit my everything including golf bag. At this point, it’s no longer a car… it’s a lifestyle adjustment. It humbles you kidogo, then rewards you immediately after. No pressure, no unnecessary noise, no stress… just pure “let me handle my business quietly” energy. Lowkey, this car teaches you something important: Not everything that works needs to be loud or expensive or intimidating… sometimes the real flex is just being reliable every single day without drama.
