I know most people here don’t care about this because it is unrelated to my animation career, but this Saturday at 5:15am my horse and I will begin our ride at The Tevis Cup- the world’s toughest 100 mile in 24 hour endurance race. Starting in Tahoe and ending in Auburn, CA.

Okay if it's an ongoing thing, what do you propose then? Either we overwork people, overspend or cut corners. There's gonna be a negetive effect somewhere here.

An even if you did, what do you think the end goal of AI (in animation) is? Make things cheaper? When has that EVER worked in our industry? Studios have shown time and time again that they will always cut corners at the expense of their employees.

@thisisgoblin @mexopolis I completely understand. I will always prefer to negotiate first and escalate later, that is what we do with the ghouls. (In that case I wish we had escalated more, but our strike-able productions were already shriveled) If someone wants to scab they will be treated as one.

@thisisgoblin @mexopolis We did not. It was devastating. I personally was holding out for a strike but that is not what we as a union had decided on democratically- we TA’d, and our body voted yes. It is unacceptable, but so was what the AMPTP was countering, and I still prefer we speak face to face.

@thisisgoblin @mexopolis I know, I was on the negotiations committee last cycle and I was in AMPTP meetings, group caucuses, and calls drafting/adapting proposals 9am-2am most days. An open channel for dialogue needs to be there for our own peers. If he doesn’t want it, he will be remembered as a scab.

The people pushing AI aren’t looking for dialogue. Our only defense is solidarity and drawing a hard line

Amazon needed a big fish to give credibility to their project and they got it. Now we sit and wait. Regardless of how people feel about ai, if he makes a project that people consider good, it’s over. And all it takes is one review to get traction and the general masses will change their tune on it.

If you aren't plugged into the anti-AI art memeplex (which is distinct from the broader anti-AI memeplex), it just looks like Guiterrez announced he's going to make a bad movie and people are mad at him for that alone. Judging from the replies I've been reading, there's likely more going on than that, but that's literally how it looks from the outside.

He currently has a project named ‘Punky Duck’ through Amazon MGM’s GenAI Creators’ Fund, an initiative aimed at giving creators access to professional-grade AI tools and funding for cinematic entertainment.
