That’s fair, but it would still seem in all cases to point to a Pope necessarily being subject to the authority of councils, at least in terms of his deposition.
In which case you’re not just going back to V1, but all the way back to 1054. The Filioque was the catalyst, but the real meat of the Great Schism was the Pope asserting that he was above the councils.

I’m sympathetic to the SSPX, but their position confuses me.
I’m not sure if it’s the official stance, but many of them maintain that Vatican II was a heretical counsel. If that is the case, then the Pope and all of his magisterium would be heretics.
Which would be all fine in good if they actually declared a schism, but most in the SSPX claim to still be in communion with Rome and get offended when people say otherwise.
So you are insistent that you are in communion with heresy then? What on God’s green earth are you doing?
