It’s an honor to partner with @NFHS_Org in promoting player safety nationwide while making the lives of coaches & administrators easier. Thank you to @OfficialGHSA, @MSHSL, @giaasports, @UHSAAinfo for being early adopters & trailblazers in helping to set the standard in pitch count management. @CoachSwit Arms are cooked because they never have an off season. Year round baseball at 15 is stupid

High school pitcher throws 90 pitches through 5… and then goes right to shortstop? So his arm is “done” for the mound—but fine for every throw across the diamond? That’s how arms get cooked. Protect high school players, not just the pitch count.

@txrealitycheck @CoachSwit Respectfully, this has been researched & answered. A 5 yr study by the Univ of NC looked at arm injury rates of LL players using inning limits vs pitch count limits. The results showed a 50% ⬇️ in arm injuries with pitch count regs.

@CoachSwit Unpopular opinion, but pitch count actually causes more harm. You pitch different going for the long game than if you limit pitches, like a marathon versus a sprint. It would be better to train the kid to recognize when he needs to be pulled and when he can keep going.

Thank you @mikereinold for your hard work in putting these ITP protocols together. Ground breaking research that revolutionizes throwing programs.
Mike Reinold@mikereinold

Check out my new article on The Science Behind Interval Throwing Programs: A Data-Driven Approach to Safer Pitcher Rehab: mikereinold.com/interval-throw… Excited to share my new journal article publication in IJSPT!   It's my new research paper with all my baseball interval-throwing programs of various durations. This is the follow-up to my paper from a couple of years ago, which published our long-term 7-month throwing program. We built this on biomechanical torque data and workload modeling to ensure the program was perfect. This paper adds more variations that cover the vast majority of baseball injuries. I wrote a blog post explaining a lot of this, but I want you to be able to download these for free and use them in your practice.

@NVTBLRobHahne @VBCA2018 @BluebookBeede @JRudd_Scout @jaegersports ⬆️ emphasis on chronic overuse factors: • 8-12 yrs old: 4 months off w/ no throwing. Can be two separate 2 month intervals (Aug/Sept & Dec/Jan) • 13-18 yrs old: 4 months off of competitive pitching. Can be two separate 2 month intervals. Can still long toss, pen, etc.

@ScottHaase14 Certainly a major component, but blame is often deflected to parents b/c it’s “their child”. Our year-round monitoring system, PitchKount Plus, empower parents & coaches w/ the info to easily follow @MLBPitchSmart. Team2Team - Yr2Yr - Whole Career

Who is to blame for arm injuries? Think about it👇 Who do pitchers want to please most? Who are pitchers around most? Who has the most control over a pitcher’s schedule? Who is the adult in the room? Who puts the lineup together? The head coach is the single biggest reason for arm injuries. We all know arm injuries happen on every team, every year, correct? We all know that there are pitchers that do NOT get hurt. We all know that there are ways to help prevent injuries correct? We all know that the head coach writes every single practice plan…and if it doesn’t include an intention to prevent arm injuries then they are deciding to out their pitchers’ arms at risk! Nobody said it was easy, but it is that simple.

Amateur Commish for the day. Post what you would update with Pitch Smart, if you had the chance. Not including getting everyone to follow. Bullet points. Ortho/Med will still make final determination. We have about 6-8 so far. @BluebookBeede @JRudd_Scout @jaegersports

@BluebookBeede Coach- we are working on this currently with the ABCA, MLB, USA and others. Had meetings in NYC two weeks ago that went very well. Actually met with Tyler and his crew in Columbus. The key here is to get ALL events, tourneys, leagues to 100% follow to pitch count rules.

A 13-year-old throwing 46 pitches on Saturday and then coming back to throw 97 more on Sunday? No one has a "RUBBER ARM," regardless of what "adults" think! In March, in the Southwest, all under the banner of "travel ball fun"? That's not development. That's reckless. Any coach who green-lights that workload on a kid that age has no business leading young pitchers ever again, at any level. Period. We don't need another committee to debate guidelines or form a task force. We need immediate, real change: strict enforcement of sensible pitch limits, mandatory rest, and coaches who actually prioritize arm health over wins or showcase stats. I've seen too many promising athletes sidelined for life because adults put "exposure" ahead of their future. Enough. Protect these boys. Their arms aren't indestructible. @Pitchsafe_co @ArmoredHeat @bsblbluebook @TylerBeede @mtabor22

The BEST Rotator Cuff Strengthening Exercise (According to Research)! 👀 There isn’t one exercise that’s SIGNIFICANTLY superior to others. But I do think you need to load the rotator cuff! Many people use tubing and light weights without ever loading the cuff. Want to master the shoulder? Comment ‘shoulderkeys’ and I’ll send you a link to my free course on shoulder rehab. My Study Referenced from JOSPT in 2004: “Electromyographic analysis of the rotator cuff and deltoid musculature during common shoulder external rotation exercises”

Pitching injuries will happen no matter what but a big contributing factor is when there is too quick an increase in pitch counts…When there isn’t a proper progression, chances for injury increases significantly. This is why you see many folks get upset about HS pitch counts this early in the season….proper progressions matter and should be adhered to….if you have an issue with this message, educate yourself #4L @PrepBaseballLA @PrepBaseballMS @PerfectGameUSA @2D_sports @FiveTool @prospectdugout @PPABR2024
