A majority (53%) of FOX World Cup viewers through the Round of 32 had not watched *any soccer at all* on linear TV in the prior 12 months. Again, the ability of broadcast TV to pull in the casual viewer is unrivaled.

That’s because they have a club football culture. America does not given MLS is new and barely on the radar - so World Cup brings in the casuals and you hope to hook them to either supporting s club team or league. In America there are fans of a league given the quality of the European league and teams.

Unfortunately Americans are conditioned to love brands over the game. Or to generalise "sports" as a thing you're in to. There are no World Cup, EPL or Serie A fans in Europe, we have football fans with club or nation alligences. I've never met a "sports guy" (or even words to that effect) who wasn't an American

My siblings, none of whom care about ⚽️ in the least, are glued to the TV this World Cup. The family chat has become a soccer hub of predictions, questions and excitement. This WC is changing the game in America!

I feel ya. World Cup has become daily routine for many. But fear not, we’re landing in Boston and we’ll be back in action tomorrow with France vs. Morocco. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

@ClayTravis @CNBC Selling. Less viewers in the US timezone. This will be most watched US broadcast - but casuals are not going to watch next World Cup as much due to the time change.

More academies in every state sponsored and certified by US soccer. There are a few dozen only. Pay to play can stay for a different level of player. Academies reserved for the best. An easy to understand soccer pyramid and payout structure. Promotion/Rel in MLS. Salary cap removal in MLS. At the same time continue to send the best players to compete overseas. More emphasis on technique and tactics. Less on athleticism alone. Deep private investment $$ in American academies. If the NIL can land for college sports - academies should see deeper investment. College soccer is not the path. Youth to pros is. Better coaching at the yourh level. Lose the emphasis on “travel soccer”.

24 years ago US men’s soccer went to the World Cup round of 8. We haven’t been back since. Why not? What needs to change for us to get back to the round of 8 and beyond? Genuinely interested in your takes. Fire away.

If college sports can pull off NIL - certainly US soccer can go deeper in their academy programs nationwide.

@ManagerTactical Spot on. Where do we invest? If $$ is sent to the federation how do we know it goes to academy creation. Would be great to see a full video with visuals on how confusing the current system is and where it fails.

Pay to play is not the real problem in US 🇺🇸 soccer ⚽️… also other countries have it. So what’s the real problem and solution?

The Argentina come back against Egypt is one of the best matches in football history. I analyzed ~50,000 games with Fable to show just how crazy it was. Of the 10,138 times that a team has been up 2-0 at 79', only SIXTEEN times (0.16%) did they ever make a come back at the end of 90 minutes. This is the first time it's happened in a World Cup.

But the GK can run out of the box and tackle anyone he wants correct?! England Ghana game for those who don’t remember. I can NOT stand how GK are protected and given a free license in this. But also the German attacker…why run into the GK withOUT looking at the ball?!

@SpencerHakimian It is amazing. If the domestic league removed the salary cap - it would be insane. Not sure what is holding that back.

@Attach it sure is! I think many are finally really seeing it given it’s on an American timezone and front and center in the stadiums. The future is bright for American soccer, and it’s finally getting noticed by the mainstream to a degree.

There are two ways to look at the #USMNT’s World Cup round of 32 meeting with Bosnia and Herzegovina. On one hand, it’s a game fraught with danger. On the other, the sky-high stakes represent a chance “to inspire generations to come.” ⁦@FOXSoccer:⁩ foxsports.com/stories/soccer…
