It’s been six days since we introduced @TrailsHQ. In reality, it has been about eight years in the making. Over that time, we kept seeing the same pattern. People had value scattered across chains and tokens. They wanted to buy an item, fund a vault, or move money, and ran into gas they did not have, networks they did not understand, and extra steps they never signed up for. Most of them dropped off. We didn’t. Ethereum today is an ecosystem of chains rather than a single network. That richness is powerful for builders, yet fragmentation makes a simple request like “pay 100 USDC” surprisingly hard. Trails is our answer. Trails delivers universal transaction rails that let an app accept crypto from anyone on supported chains in one user confirmation. The user says what they want to do and what they want to spend. Trails looks across their balances, finds a route, and quietly handles any bridging, swapping, and execution in the background. 1-click to completion. All a builder has to do is drop in a small widget or API and instantly gain support for transaction flows from many chains without rewriting their app each time. Trails coordinates the bridges, DEXs, and protocols and delivers exactly what the app expects at the destination, so users can pay with any token from any chain. The story behind the product is pretty simple. We want Ethereum to feel like one network again. We want developers to spend less time wrestling with fragmentation and more time designing experiences people love. We want someone who has never used crypto before to press “Buy,” confirm once, and know it just worked. Six days in, I’m proud of what the team has created and grateful for integrators like @circle, partners like @katana and @foresightnow, and the countless developers already exploring what Trails can do. As Ethereum continues to mature and new chains and ecosystems come online, our job is to keep this experience simple: 1-click transactions with any wallet, any token, any chain.

Paying gas in a chain's native token is still the biggest fail moment for new users. @circle providing USDC gas via paymasters removes that step. If you hold USDC, you can transact. That's a big unlock for mainstream adoption. At @0xsequence we've been leaning into this solution for a long time. For several years now, our relayer has supported multi-token gas options, so users can pay gas with any major ERC-20, including USDC, on any major EVM. Projects we support have been doing this in production, quietly, for years. The idea is simple. User gets presented with fee options relayer will accept, based on the balances in their wallet. They pick one and sign once for the whole transaction. Relayer confirms fee receipt and relays in the same atomic transaction. No "go buy native gas, come back, try again." The experience feels like the web should feel. This unlocks clean flows: sponsor the first action, then charge a few cents in USDC per request. Let users mint, swap, or buy an item without pre-funding gas. Works for cross-chain too when paired with intent routing, because the user never has to think about which gas token lives where. Of course, we support the same functionality for gas sponsorship too. Projects can fill their "gas tank" with any major token, on any chain. Relayer will sponsor transactions based on their customizable ruleset, and deduct gas costs accordingly. If you are scratching your head on how to wire up a seamless adoption flow like this, happy to share patterns that have worked in production for many projects that rely on Sequence.

Ethereum works because rivaling protocols, and even rivaling industries, meet at the same table and ship into open standards that anyone can build on. When any single actor starts to look like a dependency, it’s a reminder that decentralization is a feature, not a bug. The backbone of smart contracts should be plural by design. Many clients. Many funders. Many L2s. Many paths to the same outcome. That’s how a public network stays resilient while the ecosystem experiments at the edges. The path forward includes: widening the mix of clients and validators, supporting independent research and grants, designing incentives that reward diversity, and keeping the surface calm for users. Measure progress by finished actions and shared truth. This is the world we’ve been building toward at Sequence: cross-layer, infrastructure-agnostic, developer-first. Unify users, wallets, and routes so an action feels like one step and the record stays verifiable, no matter which sponsor, stack, or layer is involved under the hood. Corporations moving onchain is a good thing. Meanwhile, Ethereum continues to mature as dependable infrastructure open to everyone 💜
