For the past two seasons, we’ve tried to sign Nico Williams. Athletic Club’s president even contacted La Liga, and Tebas gave him information about Barcelona’s financial situation so they could use it against the deal. In the end, the transfer collapsed. We tried to sign Koundé, and Sevilla turned it into a huge controversy. We signed Joan García, and Espanyol fans attacked and threatened the player. Just two days ago, Barcelona backed away from signing Laporte because Athletic Club refused, and the club didn’t want another conflict with them. Now we’re trying to sign Julián Álvarez, and Atlético Madrid have gone into full panic mode, acting as if the club will cease to exist if he leaves. Meanwhile, the Gordon and Adeyemi deals were wrapped up in no time. The worst part is trying to sign players from La Liga. The moment Barcelona shows interest in one of their players, these clubs treat it like a war, whether Barcelona negotiates respectfully or not. If we had a president and a board that truly cared about the club and its reputation in the transfer market, they would treat any club that refuses to negotiate or deliberately makes deals difficult for Barcelona the exact same way, cutting off all future business with them.
