Honorary Marketing Director @troychaplin has informed me that the next Blockathon is just one week away. Obviously I knew that, but I wanted to make sure that you all knew that too. Imagine missing out because you thought there was an extra week in there. How embarrassing.

@troychaplin Still sorting out the best way to share entries beyond occasional highlights on social. For now keep watching here and I’ll work on something more lasting for the site!

In the spirit of experimentation, I’m not picking a “winner” of the Blockathon this month. Instead I’ll send some smaller prizes to everyone who submitted a block! I want these events to provide space for learning and fun, and declaring a “winner” can work counter to that.

Big thanks to everyone who participated and shared about the event this month! I’ll be in touch about prizes soon and already have my eyes on the next one!

I’ll continue playing with the model to see what works best (especially as the events grow), but for now I really believe that anyone who participates has already won, so why not make the prizes reflect that while I can? 🏆

The block plugin includes functionality for character creation, leveling up, and an XP-based reward system that ties back into your site! I was blown away by the scope of what he pulled off for a short project delivering on the core idea + a mini arcade 👏

For our first Blockathon last week, @Justinnealey built a WP gamification engine! "Site RPG Block" adds classic RPG-style character advancement to gamify interaction with your WP site, including levels and classes of course, plus 4 different mini games! github.com/jnealey88/site…
