@Fat_Electrician Might be outside your fanbase a bit but the fall of Jo-Ann Fabric & Crafts would be great. Also would mean pulling gems from r/joannfabrics

AO3 is literally the last ad free bastion on the Internet and that is a GOOD THING

@desert_starr_57 And it will somehow cost $60+ million to make when the OG had a budget of $60,000.

But why?
I am going to argue that "The Blair Witch Project" worked because it was a social experiment that people thought was actually real.
You can't recreate it! Hollywood is so creatively bankrupt that we've arrived here.

@MCRTEEZZZ 1 of the biggest reasons we don't have many passenger trains anymore is that the railroad companies made train rides more expensive while cheaping out on the experience. Then people chose cars while the railroad companies went:

This is actually kinda insane
In 1996, a 14-year-old kid watched Jaws and got obsessed with Quint’s WWII monologue.
He then began researching the 1945 sinking of the USS Indianapolis, interviewed around 150 survivors, and reviewed 800 documents. His research focused on the role of the ship’s captain, Charles B. McVay III, who had been court-martialed after the incident. He came to believe that Captain Charles Butler McVay III, who had been blamed for the tragedy, was innocent.
The 14-year-old, Hunter Scott, presented his findings to the United States Congress at age 14. In 2000, Congress passed a resolution clearing Captain McVay’s name, and the U.S. Navy later formally exonerated him.

We should have someone run independent for the next election on the following issues and just watch the system implode.
Full release of Epstein files
Bar congress from stock trading
Nation wide registry for animal abusers
Public execution for pedos
Federally legalize cannabis (because fuck big pharma)
Cut off large cash payments to other countries (including Israel)
I know I’m missing some things but it’s a start.

@maekarling_ I think part of the problem is that you & your mom engage with media differently.
You follow news/updates on the show allowing you to stay informed about changing leads.
Your mom only watched the show so seeing scenes from later seasons without context lead to assumptions.

@shadydoorags I wonder if it was also a narrative choice to balance the cast? Aang & Toph are bending prodigies, Zuko trained hard, & Sokka worked hard to learn various fighting styles/skills.
Making Katara "not" a prodigy tips the scales toward hard work paying off as much as raw talent.
English

Someone once said that Katara is a prodigy but the writers were scared to call her one and I've believed this claim ever since. The girl's bending prowess is a case where the story tells something different than it is showing.
We are shown multiple times in Book Water that Katara was born with natural raw power in her bending, hinting at her potential to become a great master. Her only weakness was that she required a master to demonstrate the techniques to her. Without one, she was considered a slow learner.
However, even though that's made clear, Pakku doesn't give credit to her talent. He instead says her quick mastery of the element is due to her hard work and determination, because that's the narrative we're supposed to believe, even though Zuko, whose been firebending for years with the best teachers and has always struggled with his element, is still learning advanced techniques from a master at the start of the show and is shown to be on par, if not worse than Katara by the end of the first season.
Don't get it twisted, I'm not saying Katara didn't work hard, but when you compare her to prodigies like Azula and Aang, and then do the same with non-talented hard workers like Zuko, she fits way more snuggly with the former than the latter.
